We didn't actually stay at York. Hostelworld made an error in booking and cancelled our room. Therefore when we arrrived at there was no accommodation for us. I have ticked staff as 'poor' due to the fact that when the mistake was first found on the system, the implication was that I was confused and that I made the cancellation. The people behind the desk were unapologetic (the word sorry did not leave either of their mouths). However my key complaint is with hostelworld, as described below.

Door closer in room 4 needs oiling and very squeaky floor boards could do with being screwed down! Otherwise comfy bed etc though the room was a little warm.

This is a pretty typical youth hostel. It was nice enough. Not a particularly social hostel. A bit of a walk to the city center, but nothing too bad. The only wrong thing with this hostel is that you have to pay for everything. The price literally includes your bed and linens and nothing else.

Staff war very friendly, hostel was clean and rooms were as expected. I'd like to emphasise the excellent condition of the self-catering kitchen, which made our stay very comfortable! Thank you very much!

46 years I have been hostelling.York was my 2nd hostel. The old cycling to/hiking to days are over therefore the atmosphere of yesteryear is missing BUT the previous two visits illustrated how much...you could do with checking the £3 extra "outsiders" know how to make a bed...disturbing to witness bare flesh on duvets...you would think the green of the sheets would give them a clue. Too much focus on ultra security. Didn't seem to have much life about it compared with Nice in France.

The staff were lovely and the rooms were as expected. Facilities of this particular hostel were fantastic BUT in room 27 (facing the car park and residents across the road) there was a lot of noise from one of the resident's dogs. I was awake until 1am.

Ideal location for exploring York city. Staff at the hostel were all very friendly and helpful. Fantastic value (I'm guessing particularly because of the time of year). A very enjoyable stay and we'll definitely be back.

Only a short walk from town, and the free parking ore then makes up for it. Good self catering kitchen but there is a bar and food for the lazy ;) Beds are really comfy but no lockers in the room... didnt really mind as the rest of the security is very high. Worst thing is they are on stupid global gossip charging 5 quid a day for wifi! Ridiculous. Otherwise really clean with decent showers and great staff. Cheers!

Really far from town, otherwise a typical YHA: super clean, nice staff, charge for everything, lots of little kids.

Brilliant stay, staff were amazing. Great fun to have the bar downstairs to talk to other people staying in the hostel not just people in your room. Bedding and room was clean and nice, nice and quiet when going to sleep. Lovely Hostel, would recommend and stay again!! Thanks.

although the location seems a little far, bus can arrive and also it is easy to walk from train station through the river sidewalk. The facilities are clean and the Kitchen is big enough to cook.

Staff was wonderful! I liked that the hostel was a little bit out of the city. It was a nice walk along the river to get in to York. Breakfast was a bit expensive, but you do get a lot. Everything very clean & neat. Generally a "quiet" hostel, but people were very friendly. Thanks for a great stay!
