YHA & Holiday Park, Catlins Coast Reviews

Upon arriving at the hostel at around 8pm from a long drive, we arrived to a very empty and very dark house. After ringing the bell for service we were greeted by a rather drunk manager who seemed extremely disappoined to see us. After a bit of uncomfortable communication we were shown our room. Tidy enough but no curtains in the bathroom. It was dark outside so we had no idea what was beyond our bathroom window. The place is enormous and slightly creepy (think Jack Nicholson and The Shining).

The hostel is located in an old hospital giving it a special character. I like it. The staff was friendly and there were also a cute cat and a lovely dog. Unfortunately Owaka is a really boring Little village and at the evening of my stay only a Few other traveller stayed at the Hostel, so the atmophre was too quiet. Cleanliness could be better, but I think its a Good Place to stay One Night at Owaka .
