The two things that let the hostel down are the lack of cleaning of bedrooms and the cost of "tours". In the former, the rom was not cleaned in the three nights we stayed - this is particularly bad with regards to the need to leave used toilet paper in the bin. In terms of the tour, these were just petered as taxi rides without any tour at all. Sadly the savings made by sharing taxis are not passed on to the guest from the hostel. The hostel is beautiful in character.

This is an tranditional building, 300 yrs old, in the middle of the old town, full of charater. Very large rooms with individual heating plus background radiators. En-suite bathroom is a wet room with constant hot water. Staff are very helpfull. Would recommend to stay here. Plenty of places to eat in the old town.

Great hostel right in the center.Good common room with free pool to socialize. It is located next to a large tower that is lit at night. The atmosphere cant be better: You are in 18 century China!

The communal bathrooms were a little smelly but the room had bags of character. The security wasn't great but I had a good lockable cabinet next to the bed.

Gorgeous courtyard, great location right in the middle of the alleyways. Bedrooom looked down to the alley which was cool. Best thing to do is rent a bike and cycle around the lanes. There is a pool table, good breaky, free pick up from the train station. Only thing is no lockers and no one really uses the bedroom lock. would stay again.

I had a very nice stay there. The hostel is very well located in the heart of the old town in a typical old house. The staff there was smiling and helpful. The food and drinks were good and the hall/bar area is welcoming and great to meet people. The only thing is, the rooms are noisy, especially the ones on the street side, so I would recommend you to ask before. You can also consider it's a part of the PingYao atmosphere! ;) I recommend to any people to stay there.

Beautiful hostel. Free pick up from station and back. City itself little boring, but hostel is a real gem.

Free train station pick-up and very helpful staff [thank you for booking our train tickets]. The hostel is located in the heart of the walled city inside a beautiful historical building - the common room has foosball, pool, board games, DVDs and a lot of comfy sofas. Our dorm was good, although I would suggest adding bedside lamps and replacing the rather uncomfortable pillows. The food served was tasty although slightly on the expensive side [as in many other hostels I visited in China].

Really nice hostel, 3 great courtyards, beautiful and clean rooms. The only thing which was not really positive was one of the common showers broke (i still could shower, but not very easily) and they didn't repair it quickly. But definitly a hostel to recommend!

(+) Beautiful traditional chineses house, very helpful staff. Typical room, one big matress and tea table by your feet. (-) Extremely bad smell (problems with sewer). Impossible for us to stay in the first room. Second room better, but still smelly. If you are sensitif concerning smells, avoid this place.

This is the place you stay if you want to save some money but at the same time live very great. The showers werent the cleanest Ive seen but who cares. I mean they were ok and you purpose of staying in Pingyao is not to live in a 5 star Hotel, its about looking around and experience this old cultural city. I cant see why you would complain on anything cuz its cheap and great at the same time.

This was a nice place to chill for 2 days after a hectic week in Beijing. The hostel is in a perfect location as it is in the centre of the old city. The building is unique and interesting. Robert was friendly & helpful but the other staff were not so friendly. The food was only ok. There was a bit of a smell around the place which we think was due to the fact that the bins in the bathroom were not emptied regularly, yuck!
