I had a private room the only windows of which opened to the common area, where people would come to smoke even after 10. Also, the room was really dingy, small and cramped. The staff and location were great though, and probably the place would be ok for party animals and people who smoke anyway.
Our smoke detector was broken, had issues checking out- no one was in reception at 8:30am, the bathrooms were filthy. And there was no breakfast- could even find a clean cup for coffee
When we arrived our room was not cleaned although it was in the middle of the afternoon. We were given a tiny 2 bed room (not too cheap) where it was hard to move with the both of us in it. Plus the room was on the groundfloor and very close to the street, so we could hear everyone coming and going and talking on the phone in front of our window. In the kitchen, there were not even ordinary mugs or something. For breakfast there was no bread and no milk, but cornflakes... Staff was really nice.
The staff was very helpful and had answeares for all my questions. Great place to meet other people as they arrange events every day of the week.
The staff where all really helpful and it's in a good location. The only down side is that the kitchen is a bit small, and it would benefit from having more bathrooms as the toilets and showers are in they same room, so if someone is showering then you have to wait a while to use the bathroom.
I was originally booked at Zing, but upon arrival the wonderful receptionist (Tom) told me that the room I was meant to stay in was not up to his standards so he brought me next door to "The Originals" (which is their sister hostel) and made sure that my room over there was up to par. I am very pleased with my stay at the Originals and couldn't have been happy without the help of the wonderful staff that work at both Zing and the Originals! I definitely reccommend staying at either hostel!
In Sydney for a conference, only slept here and was fine for that. Slightly musty smell in the room
The staff here is amazing they were so kind and really went out of their way to help me. The rooms are a little small but they each have a bathroom, shower, sink and fridge so it was very nice. Highly recommended!!
Great hostel. Good mix of long stayers so you can sleep if you want during the week or party. Great atmosphere and bunch of people. Haven't heard of any stealing going on. If your an idiot they normally get kicked out. Never had to queue for a bathroom. Kitchen gets busy as expected when everyone's in from work but you get what you need done. Big communial area. I'd recommend.

Nice and clean hostel at center of Sydney, awesome staff...
Overall, the hostel is nice. The kitchen is not very big, which makes it hard to cook when it's 'rush hour'. I booked a 6bed dorm, but there were no beds available so I got upgraded to a very nice 4bed dorm. The room had its own bathroom, and was very clean.
Good solid hostel and no complaints. Staff were excellent, and helped sort out a dock up re my booking. Good option as a hostel as it is one street removed from the chaos of kings cross, although a little more pricey for double room than we would ideally like.
Stayed in a private room with fiance. The room was fantastic! We had a TV, sink and mini-fridge so it was perfect for everyday needs! We were above the main hang out/dining area so it was pretty loud during the day. BUT after the 10pm quiet time, much quieter and more conducive to restful sleep. Awoken every morning to the song of the local bird population. Very pleasant stay, would definitely stay there again!
Great location and good value for money. Stayed in a 4 bed dorm even though we paid for a 6 bed dorm. The kitchen facility was fine even though I had read previously that it was too small. Nice outside court area to eat your food and common room with cable TV was popular with long term guests, but we were only on a short visit so didnt use those facilities. The only downside was no lockers in rooms to lock area your passport, cash, laptop etc. which is the one rec. change.
