Tanaka-ya is the prettiest place I have ever seen, everything there was perfect : the atmosphere of the place (very special district + typical traditional japaneese house), the extraordinary kindness of Mrs Tanaka, the fact that you have everything you need (micro wave, fridge, hair dryer More

Our stay at Tanaka-ya was very enjoyable! Easy to find and great ambiance! Tucked away on a narrow Japanese street, you really have the feeling of an authentic Gion experience. Almost like traveling back in time. We saw maiko in the street almost right as we arrived, and then practically More

The landlady of this charming ryokan is helpful and attentive despite the time she must spend keeping it spotlessly clean. It is well positioned close to bus stops, and a French style bakery for breaky when you have had enough miso and rice! Being off the main roads gives it a peaceful, More

Travelled alone in Kansai region for the first time & was welcomed very nicely by Yoshikosan even though I was rly late. Ryokan sanki is very beautiful in a simple, traditional style. Yoshikosan managed to communicate even though she is not fluent in English & made my stay enjoyable. I More

This was an absolutely lovely place to stay! The staff were wonderful, the location is handy to lots of supermarkets, cheap places to eat, and a couple of bus stops. There is a few quirky features to the place, but I feel that this added to the experience. I would definitely stay here More

Great hostel, pretty small. Shower and toilets are outside, which can be hard for winter. Dorm is just by the living room so it can be quite noisy at night. The door isn t locked but there are lockers in the room. Midori is really nice and welcomes you in the place with a big smile. More

Great place to stay because of the nice and helpful staff; good facility (even facial soap...that's not easy to find the shower gel in some hostel in Europe) I also like the outlook of the hostel. It is a traditional Japanese house. I went to the roof and take a photo. Although the staff More

I enjoyed my stay very much! A-yado is by far one of the best hostels I have been in. I would have appreciated bigger lockers, though, because the ones available were too small for my camera and laptop, which I would have wanted to keep safe. Also it would be nice if there was an area More

The hostel did not provide good directions and I got lost a bit. It is located near Exit 9 of the Keihan Gion-Shijo underground station, not "in front of" the station as stated. The staff at the reception/sake bar was helpful and friendly. The location is very convenient, with bus stops, More

Great hostel, the staff here are really friendly and the building is very modern and smart. The Sake bar down stairs is also really good. It's very close to the subway and easy to get to from the main station. There is also a nice view from the dorm balcony. Highly recommended... More

We loved this hostel I could not have asked for a better experience. The staff were so helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We were upgraded from our 4 bed dorm to a private room for our last 2 nights. The staff gave us so much info on places to go and things to see. I can not recommend More

I very much enjoyed my stay in hostek Haruya. Haruya is within a minute walk from the Sanjo Station and the bus station. It's also close to Gion. Getting around is really easy. The house itself is century-old and surprisingly it's very clean. The room is nice and the bed is comfy. There's More
