hello kim! yes, you will enjoy your stay at sam sen sam. i also overnighted at the sukhumvit hostel for the last 2nights in thailand and we were dissapointed. it does not compare to sam sen sam. my sis and I found sam sen to be rather clean, also that a continental breakfast is included. in addition, the staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home. Gabe(hostel staff) though speak little english is such a nice guy. he goes out to please his guest.

hello kim! my advice on thailand, stay away from tuk tuk (so called taxi). these guys are out to rip off tourists and entice you to buy jewelery(you will pay a very expensive cab ride). though thailandians are over all very pleasant people, some will try to scam you and they work in groups. you are thought to believe they are being so kind in helping you find your way, but in actually they will try to steer you in another direction. my sis and i were right outside looking for the entrance to what po and there was this man pretending to be looking under the hood(auto mechanic) and he stopped us saying that what po was closed due to ceremonial reasons and to return back at 3pm. for 10baht he said he (tuk tuk driver) can take us to the lucky budda, standing budda, and some other location- all for 10baht and that by 3pm he would have us back to what po. i kept declining but, would you believe about 5more other people tried to stop us and say the same thing to us that what po was closed. when in actually it was open. my point stick to your agenda! do not get conned!

Have been to Thailand twice but would you believe I've only been to one place you're going...Bangkok! I stayed in Thai Cozy House and would definitely recommend it. Is near the famous Khao San Road but not right on it. To get a taste of that road listen to my podcast from it. And make sure to download our free guide for Bangkok also. To get all click on 'guides' up top right.
Thanks,
Colm

Hello fellow Canadian!
I see you've been to Venice; I'm thinking of heading there myself at the end of March. Any suggestions? I'll only be there a few days so I need to know the must-sees.
Cheers,
Jess

Well, in my experience the 3 i tried in downtown amsterdam were a bit crappy but ok if you just come to sleep and have a shower, nothing disgusting...
the first one (can't remember the name), we only stayed a day because we didn't plan that day in advance, it was pretty ordinary.. then the whole week we were in a basement with 8 people and someone was smoking (not weed though ;) and it was "livable" and the rest was nice... the last one was the youth hostel (religous style) you can't come back after 2 but it was the most clean but well, it sucks to be in amsterdam and have a bunch of praise the lord all over the walls and think of a curfew, but that's just me ;-)
(and well, Amsterdam is pretty much dead past 1h am... so it's not a bad choice overall)
Have fun there!

Hey Kim - Wombats is amazing! I have stayed in both the Vienna and the Munich hostels, and both times it was awesome. It is immaculate, the staff is super friendly, and they have laundry services. Also, they are a stone's throw away from the Hauptbahnhof.

Munich is a lot of fun. Definitely go to a beer garden or four, and see the Glockenspiel - it plays every day in the summer at 12pm on Marienplatz.

If you are so inclined, the concentration camp Dachua is about 20 minutes outside the city - a suggestion, though - you can public transport it, or get on a tour - mine was 12 euro - and the tour is much easier. Even if they still take public transportation there, it is a real pain in the ass to try and figure it out yourself, and it's quite a hike from the train station if you don't know where you're going. I hope you have a good and safe trip, and let me know how it goes!

hey there Kim, oops.....i was mistaken in my hostels.....the hostel with the cool bar where i ended my pub crawl was Euro Youth Hotel, it is to the right of Jaeger's, and 2 hostels down from Wombat's. but again, with 3 hostels next door to each other, there will be a lot of intermingling.
as for the castle, i grabbed a small flyer in the lobby of Jaeger's for an organized tour to Neuschwanstein Castle. i also looked into a round trip train ticket if i wanted to go there on my own, and the organized tour was actually cheaper, and heaps of fun. there may be a line up, but the guided tour inside the Castle is only 1/2 hour; really quick, and you can only wander in the gift shop or cafe once you are done. cannot explore on your own. to be honest, getting to the Castle (up through a mountain and forest) and seeing it from the outside is actually better than the castle itself, but i still recommend it.

hey there, well i just got back from Europe, and once again it was awesome. i stayed at Jaeger's at the start and the end of my trip. i initially booked a single room without WC for the first 2 nights, but for my last night i splurged and booked a double room with my own facilities. for the amount of people that could be staying in the hostel, there is not enough bathrooms to go around.
overall, i enjoyed the hostel. there are also hostels on either side of it, and one, Wombats, has a nice bar. the Jaeger bar is pretty basic. also, there is an italian restaurant across the street which is good and very affordable. the hostel is literally a 5 minute walk from the train station. i did a Pub Crawl which was fun, but if you are there during octoberfest, a pub crawl may not be necessary?????
you can also book day trips to Dachau (concentration camp) or Neuschwanstein Castle. i did the castle.
let me know if you need anymore info.
