In HCMC watch out for motor bikes - there are thousands of them everywhere! Crossing the street literally involves stepping out into traffic and not stopping, do the city tour offered by your hostel - its great! The war museum is difficult but important, eat the Pho (of course) and if you can find it, "Che`" - this is a local treat - shaved ice with sweet beans and fruit syrup. This was their sweet summer treat before 1995 when the US lifted their embargo on all the Western stuff.

We also traveled to Phu Quoc - a very small, rural island south of the Mekong Delta. They have some great little resorts on the sand for cheap prices! We stayed at 2: Beach Club

So far i've only been on hot beach trips...all over mexico, costa rica, Dominican Republic, Barbados, etc...this is my 1st real adventure to Vietnam...can hardly wait...4 more weeks...i will die waiting...any ideas on wonderful things to do, places to stay, off the beaten track so to speak??

I've booked a hostel through hostel.com.So what happen is , there is duplicate booking for the same hostel.And deposit charges made for both booking into my credit card. I can redeem back the deposit of 10% that creditted into my credit card.What is the procedure?

Hi Colm, I recently emailed Sanya Lost Backpackers Club Beach Guesthouse in Sanya, China for their address in Mandarin so that I could communicate with a taxi better. They then emailed me to tell me to confirm my booking at a rate double then what I reserved on this website. I emailed them back the rates I was quoted and they said the rates have increased and if I don't confirm the new rates quickly, they cannot guarantee me a bed! Can they do this? Should I just confirm at the increased rate?
I leave for China on the 22nd, and I want to know if I need to look into a different hostel in Sanya.

I have had a really ugly experience with Almira rental car company in Istanbul where they stole my money after double debiting my credit card. Can you please spread the word about this being a company to avoid.

Hi Colm I am sorry to bother you as the editor but I have been trying to remove a booking that was entered for 2010 but we stayed there in 2009. It is still coming up as a future booking no matter what I try and do. I do not wish to be charged for this booking as I have already stayed and paid. Colm, I don't know what happened with HW, but cancellation of business with all those nice hostels in Cuba are terrrible move! Those people and their nice businesses depended on HostelWorld, and you guys quit on them... They already have bad situation with government and way of life, now you too... Very sad story...

Inca trail is great. did it with SAS tour group in nov 2004. Cusco is bril and loved peru. Off to BA in 2 days.........yay :)
