Hi

I have sent a few emails to your customer services team as I have been charged the full amount - one nights stay - for a hostel that I have proof I had cancelled. My bank is treating this as fraudulant but they want me to discuss with your team how the hostel got my card number - please can you reply to me asap.

Thanks

Funny you say South America. I used to be fluent in Spanish and I promised myself that in 2010 I'm getting it back by traveling south for total immersion! Good luck to you (wish me the same!)

Hey, how are you? Just repeating a query I had a few weeks ago... because I think it needs to be addressed. Seems like it's a glitch in your review system:

I wrote a review for Dallas Irving Backpackers Guesthouse (my reference is 15482-15215136), but.... and check this out - it got deleted!

I did write a critical review of the place, but that was in order. Of all my reviews, this is the only one that has been purely negative - but I don't think that would be why it got deleted? I see that my booking there is now listed as "cancelled".. but I did stay there for five days.

Is it the hostel owner that's been manipulating the system, or maybe he's told HW that I didn't stay there..?

In any case, I'd like my review to stay there, because I think it's a relevant one - and there is no reason to remove it anyway, based on the review regulations.

Could you please reply as to how I can restore the review, or write another one? And how come it got deleted in the first place? Foul play, or a mistake..?

All the best, Pål

Hi Colm,

I just booked through this site and find it's community driven approach fantastic. I've just got one question - hostelworld auto-made my account when I booked and gave me a funny user name that I'll probably forget, is there a way to change this?

Thanks!

Hey Colm! I'd love to hit Lima eventually. I was wondering, is there any way to find travelers that have booked a particular hostel the same day as you? I see where you can share your booking, but don't see a way to look at others with the same. Thanks =)

When in Lima make sure you try a bottle or three of Inka Kola (adding Pisco is optional, but will temper the sweetness a bit); the walk along the cliffs west of Miraflores to Parque de Amour is cool, especially in mid-afternoon when the fog rolls in off the Pacific.

Hey colm,

From one traveler to another, I just thought I’d share with you this new social networking site for travelers called sosauce.com. The site is very young and hip, and offers various applications that range from photo uploading to travel blogging to localized reviews of places all over the world.

Seeing you get to travel a lot, I think its definitely worth checking out. Great for organizing all your travels, and also touching base with a lot of like-minded individuals

Hope you'll give it a look!

Hi - first a few tips for you: Lima isn't as bad as most people say.. Miraflores is nice for a day or two, but Barranco is the best part of town in my opinion.. not as "big city" as Miraflores. Nice restaurants in both places!

In Cuzco, look for the four day/three nights bike/hike to Machu Picchu, and try to get it for $150. Best tip I've got for there.. and yes! Try to reach Waina Picchu while you are on the top, it's great!

And you're headed for Santiago? I'd say Andes Hostel is the best hostel there (and one of the very best all over), but Bellavista is a cooler area.

Now for my other question:

I think you might have a "bad seed" in your selection of hostels, or at least it seems that way.

I see you're still in hostelworld and its seems to be going very well - I am living in NZ at the moment and am off to Oz in 4 weeks and then onto South America for a few months before heading home so have been doing a lot of research and booking hostels on your site, its dead handy, thanks! hope all is well with you. Lima is a pit, but the Miraflores area is really nice and relatively safe. Lima is well known for scams, DO NOT TRUST ANYONE. The coast is very rocky and beautiful, have a drink at Rosa Nautica restaurant on the pier. The narrow gauge railway up to Huancayo is a stunning feat of engineering and a great couple of days.
Cusco is awesome. Machu Picchu usually has to be booked well in advance for an overnite but day trips are OK. The Urubamba valley train ride down is worth it in itself. Check out Sacsayhuaman (Sexy woman), pretty impressive and right in town. Cusco was a popular destination for US draft dodgers in the 70's. check out Abraxis bar if it is still there. Retro!

Hi ! I live in Lima Perú, i have just returned from Cuzco, is was really great! The first day in Cuzco u must rest, because of the altitud sickness, next day you can go to Machu Picchu by train, it's better because it's 1000 metres less altitude than Cuzco, and finally u can do Cuzco.

Any question my email is angelialt@hotmail.com

Hi - like many other people I can't find an email address to send this to. several weeks ago I booked a hostel in Palermo, Italy, for two nights. I arrived this morning at about 11:30am - hung around until about 12:30. No one was answering the door or the phone - so I left a note and then sent them an email telling them that since they were around that they should consider my booking cancelled and not to charge me. Can I get a refund of my deposit?? It left me quite in the lurch as you can imagine - and very annoyed!!! Amanda

Dear Colm

We stayed at the Holiday House in Bayswater, UK, checked in 30 September, out 3 October 2009 (3 nights). When we arrived, there was a notice said Twin/Double occ was 15 pp, the staff said it was tax included. Meaning that if we were walking in guests, we would save for 15 pounds sterling, that was a lot for us. The only advantage was we did not walk around to find the accommodation. We did not argue with the hotel to get the rate the announced though.

We always thought booking anything online would get better deal.

Best regards
Pornthip Yoskittiphat (Ms)

hi colm, i am trying very hard to send a message to staff about a problem i am having with my gold card, but it is nearly impossible to find the place where you can send a message (that is private, unlike it is here). please help. perhaps you may all design the site better so that it is easier to contact staff. the support centre is very unhelpful as i can not find the link to send an email, although a few days ago i did find it. thank you.
