Hi Colm,
Have just joined up, and my kids call me Pedantic Pete. Received is spelt wrong on the received messages board.
Apart from my pedanticness, which isn't a word, maybe pedanticity, nice to 'meet' you, thanks for making travel easier in booking hostels.

Hi Colm I am sorry to bother you as the editor but I have been trying to remove a booking that was entered for 2010 but we stayed there in 2009. It is still coming up as a future booking no matter what I try and do. I do not wish to be charged for this booking as I have already stayed and paid. Can you please forward this to the correct person. The booking is for the Bell Tower, ref 11916-1516095. Many Thanks Colin Kennedy

Hi Colm,
I have a question about hostels in Barcelona..I don't know if you'll be able to help, but my roommate and I are possibly going there in early January but need a hostel that is handicap accessible since she is in a wheelchair. I can't seem to find out which hostels will work for us and which won't. Any suggestions or someone I can talk to?

Thank you!

Colm, I don't know what happened with HW, but cancellation of business with all those nice hostels in Cuba are terrrible move! Those people and their nice businesses depended on HostelWorld, and you guys quit on them... They already have bad situation with government and way of life, now you too... Very sad story...

Hi

I have sent a few emails to your customer services team as I have been charged the full amount - one nights stay - for a hostel that I have proof I had cancelled. My bank is treating this as fraudulant but they want me to discuss with your team how the hostel got my card number - please can you reply to me asap.

Thanks

Hey, how are you? Just repeating a query I had a few weeks ago... because I think it needs to be addressed. Seems like it's a glitch in your review system:

I wrote a review for Dallas Irving Backpackers Guesthouse (my reference is 15482-15215136), but.... and check this out - it got deleted!

I did write a critical review of the place, but that was in order. Of all my reviews, this is the only one that has been purely negative - but I don't think that would be why it got deleted? I see that my booking there is now listed as "cancelled".. but I did stay there for five days.

Is it the hostel owner that's been manipulating the system, or maybe he's told HW that I didn't stay there..?

In any case, I'd like my review to stay there, because I think it's a relevant one - and there is no reason to remove it anyway, based on the review regulations.

Could you please reply as to how I can restore the review, or write another one? And how come it got deleted in the first place? Foul play, or a mistake..?

All the best, Pål

Hi Colm,

I just booked through this site and find it's community driven approach fantastic. I've just got one question - hostelworld auto-made my account when I booked and gave me a funny user name that I'll probably forget, is there a way to change this?

Thanks!

When in Lima make sure you try a bottle or three of Inka Kola (adding Pisco is optional, but will temper the sweetness a bit); the walk along the cliffs west of Miraflores to Parque de Amour is cool, especially in mid-afternoon when the fog rolls in off the Pacific.

Hey colm,

From one traveler to another, I just thought I’d share with you this new social networking site for travelers called sosauce.com. The site is very young and hip, and offers various applications that range from photo uploading to travel blogging to localized reviews of places all over the world.

Seeing you get to travel a lot, I think its definitely worth checking out. Great for organizing all your travels, and also touching base with a lot of like-minded individuals

Hope you'll give it a look!

Hi - first a few tips for you: Lima isn't as bad as most people say.. Miraflores is nice for a day or two, but Barranco is the best part of town in my opinion.. not as "big city" as Miraflores. Nice restaurants in both places!

In Cuzco, look for the four day/three nights bike/hike to Machu Picchu, and try to get it for $150. Best tip I've got for there.. and yes! Try to reach Waina Picchu while you are on the top, it's great!

And you're headed for Santiago? I'd say Andes Hostel is the best hostel there (and one of the very best all over), but Bellavista is a cooler area.

Now for my other question:

I think you might have a "bad seed" in your selection of hostels, or at least it seems that way.

It's jeanne here from cork, aoife's friend - I know its been a very long time since I bumped into you in Rathmines! how are things with you? I see you're still in hostelworld and its seems to be going very well - I am living in NZ at the moment and am off to Oz in 4 weeks and then onto South America for a few months before heading home so have been doing a lot of research and booking hostels on your site, its dead handy, thanks! hope all is well with you. Lima is a pit, but the Miraflores area is really nice and relatively safe. Lima is well known for scams, DO NOT TRUST ANYONE. The coast is very rocky and beautiful, have a drink at Rosa Nautica restaurant on the pier. The narrow gauge railway up to Huancayo is a stunning feat of engineering and a great couple of days.
Cusco is awesome. Machu Picchu usually has to be booked well in advance for an overnite but day trips are OK. The Urubamba valley train ride down is worth it in itself. Check out Sacsayhuaman (Sexy woman), pretty impressive and right in town. Cusco was a popular destination for US draft dodgers in the 70's. check out Abraxis bar if it is still there. Retro!
