Mexican people seem to delirious about Egypt! I have met some Mexians on a tour when visiting the Red Pyramid (Dasshur Pyramid field)
I would recommend taking the plane from Egypt if possible (or are you going to Israel too?). You could consider visiting Lebanon, tickets from Luxor to Lebanon (via Kuwait) are for example available with Jazeera Airways (www.skyscanner.net)
Lebanon/Beirut and surroundings is a really nice place and the guesthouse I've visited there is really nice with a good view on the Lebanon mountain and older people taking care of you.
Anyway, visiting Petra is straightforward; however it is a long walk from the entrance to the digged in graves
