Então, eu também vou para NY no final do ano!!!!! Então não posso te dar muitas dicas sobre a cidade, mas como já tenho alguma experiência em mochilarm eu te digo: antes de ir, compre um guia da cidade e estude um pouco... tenha uma noção do que você quer fazer e como as coisas funcionam... e depois, quando você estiver lá, o negócio é ser ousado mesmo! Ter aquela cara de pau e ir descobrindo as coisas na marra...
O legal é às vezes fugir um pouco dos lugares cheios de turistas, e ver a vida dos moradores mesmo. Você já tem experiência no exterior, e fala inglês: a simpatia dos brasileiros conquista todo mundo, então não hesite em usá-la!!!! Acho que vc vai se dar bem!!!!

I noticed that your hostel is on the Upper West Side; it's not an area filled with tourist attractions, so the subway will be your friend, :). I recommend HopStop (http://www.hopstop.com/?city=newyork)--you just type in the addresses of where you are and where you want to go and the site will tell you which train(s) to take; it is very helpful. Or you can contact me and ask. :)
