Hi Gavy!
Good for you! Tickets and everything... Well let me tell you, I would love to meet with you, but right now I´m in Santiago, Chile, for studying purposes.. so, too bad, I won´t be in Lima by May... ahh well!
But I can recommend you some things to visit in Lima.
If you are interested in history, you can´t miss archeological sites in Lima, like:
-Pachacamac, 31km south, in Lurin district, you can go by bus or taxi. It´s a big city, you have to walk through it, so take water and protect your skin from the sun. It was made by the Maranga culture, but was dominated by the Ychsma, Wari and finally the Incas until the arrival of spanish conquerors.
-Huaca Puccllana: from the Maranga culture, this site is in the heart of Miraflores district, you dont have to leave the city, and there´s a wonderful restaurant just next to it (La Huaca).
-The other part of history is in the historic centre of the city, the heart of virreynal life. You must go to the main square "Plaza mayor" and then walk around the small streets with awesome churches and old houses. If you like we can talk about this with a map, for interesting spots.
Then, for eating, you have to try the wonderful peruvian cuisine, it depends where are you staying, to see what is near to you. There are also culinary tours, i just heard about them, if you´re interested, go here:
www.culinarytour.com.pe
There´s a beautiful entertainment mall in Miraflores called "Larcomar", it´s by the sea, with a wonderful view. there are handcrafts stores, restaurants, pubs, a small show of a museum, theater, etc.
If you´re interested in museums, you should go then to the "oro del peru" museum, the "museo de la nación" and "museo larco" of course. Here´s a website with museums links http://inc.perucultural.org.pe/agenda.asp?
About tourist info, you can call 24/7 to "iperu" the tourist assistant system: in Lima 574 8000.
Heres the official website in english: http://www.peru.info/perueng.asp
Theres a lot of info... maybe we need to exchange emails or msn contacts or something, hahaha...
Write to me at corre_yol@yahoo.com and we can stay in touch, and talk a little more about what you would like to do in Lima.
I look forward to receiving your email!
