Hello krutch,
If you want to visit Bucharest, here are a couple of things you must see:
- The People's House (aka The Parliament Palace or "Casa Poporului"), the second largest building in the world, after the Pentagon.
- Bamboo Club; it is said it's the best club in south-eastern Europe. You should definitely check it out.
- Lipscani Street; it is an area within the old city (in the current center of the city, near Unirea - Universitate area); it has a charm of its own, although much of the street is currently under repair. It also has several well known clubs and bars.
- If you want to relax in a park, these are the most important: Cismigiu Park, Herastrau Park, and Tineretului Park.
A piece of advice: be very very careful when travelling by taxi. Many taxi drivers charge WAY OVER the regular fares if they see you are a foreigner. Read the fares on the taxi before you get in the taxi, and make sure the meter charges you using the same fare. It is common for the taxi drivers to set the meter to charge foreign clients with different fares.
Also, be careful with your wallet, cell phone/ camera... There are a lot of thieves, especially when travelling by bus, or in cropwy places. A good way to travel is the subway, but ...the downside is that you will not be able to see much of the city.
Have a nice time
