I havn't been to Venice, but I've been to Rome and Naples. I think I prefered Naples out of the two..is Venice really romantic like everyone says it is? My friend was thinkng of proposing to his girlfriend out there!

I guess it depends on your budget and how far out you want to go. I went to Koh Samui in Thailand earlier on in the year and had a great time - I would recommend it 100 times over and its pretty cheap as well. This time round i'm gonna check out a few out citys!

I'm from the UK, where are you from? I see you are from Italy, I went to Rome and Naples last year = )

Hey Sabrina, thanks for the recomendation of Berlin. I have been to Germany only once before and that was to Frankfurt, which was pretty good. I am going to Thailand at the end of this week and thats my travel for the year due to work commitments, however I might try and sneak a weekend away in Berlin! Maybe you could show me the sights! :P

Here you can search for Art Galleries, but maybe it will be too touristy:

Actually, the touristy "Stockholm Top Attractions" are mostly really nice. Don't miss the Wasa Ship and Millesgården:

Nyköping is only known for "Nyköpings Gästabud", when the Swedish king Birger took revenge on his two brothers Valdemar & Erik, Dec 11th 1317 (they had 11 years earlier tried a coup on him). They were invited to a Christmas Celebration, thrown into jail and starved to death 5-6 weeks later.

No, I don't think there's any reason in staying in Nyköping, and that's also 7km from Skavsta Airport (which literally is in the middle of nowhere).

The Airport bus goes to Stockholm, but when I checked their site I see that they again have changed routing:

"Flygbussarna Airport coaches operates to and from Stockholm Skavsta Airport on these routes:

Skavsta - Stockholm Cityterminalen (non stop)

Skavsta - Södertälje - Skärholmen - Västberga - Gullmarsplan (Stockholm)

Skavsta - Norrköping - Linköping

Skavsta - Eskilstuna - Arboga - Örebro"

...so the two buses to Stockholm are no longer one through Skärholmen and one through Gullmarsplan. It's one non stop to CityTerminalen (by T-Centralen and Centralstationen for the trains) - and one that goes through several stations, including Skärholmen, and stops at Gullmarsplan...

http://www.skavsta.se/en/content.asp?area=2&id=62

http://www.flygbussarna.se/Default.aspx?lang=EN

However, if you arrive late you may not afford to be picky - if you not take the next bus, the one for your flight, it may be long before the next.

Skavsta is not really Stockholm, it's in Nyköping 100km away... But there are Airport Coaches leaving from there as well, and it's mostly 110km/h highway. So not much more than an hour. I'm not sure, but I think one bus leaves for Stockholm after every plane - Skavsta is quite a minuscle airport. What flight/time?

The buses from Skavsta alternate between two different routes. One of them would suit me - goes by Skärholmen which is a couple of km from my home - the other would suit you. This "other" route stops at Gullmarsplan before going to T-Centralen, Gullmarsplan is just one subway station before Skanstull compared to T-Centralen which is four stations after.

From Arlanda you usually go by Airport Coach to Stockholm Centre. If you have some travelling companions it may be a good idea, at night, to book a bus+taxi package:

"Booking a taxi that takes you from the airport coaches (Flygbussarna) on your way from Stockholm-Arlanda: please ask the bus driver."

(In August also Free Guided Metro Art Tour: http://www.sl.se/Templates/Article.aspx?id=12991)
From T-Centralen to "your" hostel it's subway, four stops.

I will check both [art, design and things which are not so "touristy"] and subway/bus schedules, but I think the schedules will change before you arrive. It's now holiday season, which means Stockholm people are away somewhere and fewer buses/trams/subway trains go. I believe at Aug 19-24 summer schedule is over.

About your Stockholm question; sure, just tell me a little about your interests, I will also check what's on Aug 19-24th. BTW, your hostel is at "Ringvägen 135", my work is at "Ringvägen 100", a couple of hundred meters away... :-)

Ciao Sabrina, Si, San Francisco & the Bay is the most beautiful city in the US, in my opinion!!! Yes, Canada is beautiful but so big and there are so many amazing places to see and vist... Ottawa, its capiltal is beautiful but Quebec City is the gem of Canada and celebrating 400th anniversary this summer. It is the oldest city in North America... I have a few pics but google Canada & Quebec City and you will see for yourself what I am talking about... Ciao bella! Aldo

Hi,
If you're into art and design you should definitely check out Nordiska Museet beside the Vasa Museet on Djurgarden. It's a great museum. For tips on the city download our free pocket guide.
Hope this helps,
Colm

Hello! I live 50km from Stockholm, maybe you should ask people from the city.. But its a lovely city in the summertime, thats for sure!
Depents what you are intressted in..? I like to walk around in the "old town". Very nice place in the evening.. nice restaurants also... If you like rides and attractions, there is a place called Gröna Lund (www.gronalund.com)

yeah! Madrid is amazing, definitely one of my favorite cities in the world. you should see the Reina Sofia museum for modern art and the Prado museum is a must. I love Parque de Retiro, on sundays there's a drum circle there in the afternoons. also on sundays is the Rastro flee market in the Lavapies area of the city, which is the biggest flea market i've ever seen. and at night you should definitely hit up Kapital, it's incredible. have fun!!
