Hiya! No prob, and you're NOT disturbing. Well, I actually lived in London for six months in the late 80's (gosh, how time goes by so quickly!). Anyhow, I was also there in July of 2005. Just ask me anthing you'd like, and I'll do my best to answer your questions. Re. Rio: I've been to Brazil twice, and to Rio on my first Brazilian trip. It's a wonderful city. The beach areas of Ipanema and Copa Cobana are relatively safe for tourists and locals alike. Be careful with your personal belongs in any case. I personally found Ipanema to be even nicer than Copa Cobana, but both beaches are incredible. The people in Brazil are absolutely beautiful and usually quite friendly. Although I would say you have your snobs in any country - and this goes hand in hand with people who are affluent, especially in Sao Paulo (although I have not yet been there.). I stayed at the Crab Hostel and the staff were friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was tastey and plentiful. The hostel rooms were clean and you could meet many other travelers, so you would not be alone there. ;))) I hope I could help. BTW, where are you from? I'm originally from the U.S.A. Happy travels!
