Hi! Thanks for your note. That is the same trip I am going to do! Zagreb-Plitvice-Zadar-Split-Islands-Dubrovnik. I was thinking 10 days. Did you stay with the old ladies? How was it?

I think that paying ferry and room in split is more expensive and inconvenient then renting a room on the islands. So hostel on the island is better option. I am not saying it is completely legal but, maybe you can buy a small tent and use it on the islands. Then you dont have to be scheduled for hostels, or pay neither for the ferry or hostel. Croatia is unlike Brasil, very safe country. You just find some lonely spot on the island, put a tent and in the morning put it away. You can buy it in Zagreb for small amount of money.
