I love to travel. I am embarking on my 4th trip to Europe. The last few times were through organized trips but this one I'll be backpacking and riding the rail. I've been to Asia and countries in the S. Pacific. I am looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends.

Hi, I\'ve never railed through Europe, so am not the best person to ask for advice, but I\'m guessing you probably only need to book your seat a day or two in advance. In saying that, if you make the bookings now you\'ll have a plan you\'ll have to stick to to avoid cancellation costs if there are any. But if you make the bookings as you go along it makes your dates more flexible if you know what I mean. Hope this helps, Colm

Hey Ryan, Is compulsory to book a seat in this trains: TGV, Thalys, Cisalpino, Elipsos, AVE, Italian Day trains and some trains from EuroCity & InterCity also for all kind of train hotels. All bookings are done if there is availability and have an extra charge. You can travel with normal trains but that doesnt mean that u are gonna have a seat for sure.
