Cairns Pocket Guide

Images Of Cairns

For many people, Cairns is the last stop on their journey up the East Coast of Australia. There can be no doubt that during the day it has a laid back atmosphere, making it seem like the ideal place to slow things down and take it easy for a few days. But this isn't the case. Cairns may seem a little pedestrian when compared to the rest of the manic East Coast, but don't let that fool you. Look around and you'll see streets overflowing with tour operators offering a range of activities to rival any other destination in Australia. Right on your doorstep you've got skydiving, whitewater rafting, paragliding, hiking, wakeboarding and, of course, The Great Barrier Reef - the jewel in the crown of this Northern Queensland backpacker magnet.

    Little Oasis

Dreamtime is a fun little place. It has a great atmosphere with a large communial area and decent kitchen. The rooms are a good size, but do not come with aircon. There were plenty of bathrooms and showers. The water was always hot and the water pressure was great. The staff was also excellent. If they weren't manning the desk they wereout talking with guests. They also have activities almost every night.

    Hot and Humid

If you ever been to South East Asia, then Cairns weather would be similar to those. Cains is kinda Australia's Queenstown. Small town and everything just closed by.

Insider Tip:Don't forget your sunscreen plus do organise your trip here.

    I'd Love to Go Back

Cairns is a tropical paradise in northern QLD. The weather is fantastic. I define fantastic as frequently in the 30s and heavily humid, there are many people who do not view this weather the same as I do. It's a clean, laid-back city. People expecting to interact with Australians might be disappointed, a large percentage of Cairns is tourists. The night life seemed very active in the city centre.

Insider Tip:The Botanical Gardens and Paronella Park are great places to visit in and around Cairns. They are not frequently visited and you will have a unique experience in Cairns. Bonus tip: MOZZIES. Keep some kind of insect repellent handy.

    Hotspot on the eastcoast

Nice city, a little touristy and a lot of backpackers. There is a lot of free offers on the esplanade, like markets, shows, fitness and the saltwater pool. Nice lighting and a lot of bars/clubs to go to.

Insider Tip:Crystal Cascades, beautiful waterfall close to Cairns. Go to the northern beaches (Palm Cove, Trinity Beach) to swim.
