Chicago Pocket Guide

Images Of Chicago

With its lake shore location, countless skyscrapers and bundance of iconic traits and characteristics, Chicago is one of the great American cities. Along with skyscrapers, the windy city (a nickname which has nothing to do with the weather incidentally) is famous for hot dogs, pizza, sports teams and more. It possesses a big city feel similar to that you'd find in New York, but boasts a landscape that's far more open than its east coast counterpart. One minute you're in the middle of a thriving city when walking down Michigan Avenue, while the next you're enjoying some peace and quiet overlooking Lake Michigan. Even though it's not as accessible as other North American cities, it's ultimately worth the effort to get to as Chicago is unlike any other city in the country.

    Great architecture

If you're an architecture lover, you won't be disappointed by this "gothic" city. You get plenty of places to see, and probably five days aren't enough for enjoying the city. The Magnificent Mile is a must-see, and is very crowded on summer nights. Oh, don't forget to try their deep dish pizza!

Great atmosphere, beautiful skyline, really thick pizza.

Chicago was beautiful for sightseeing (which is what we came for). The place to be for a tourist is the Loop, which is really easy to get around, and everything you want to see is nice and close together. If you want to eat you'll probably have to find someplace outside of the loop, but there are plenty of good places, just make sure you know in advance where they are. The view from millennium park is very difficult to beat, but the observatories in the John Hancock center and the Sears/Willis tower make

    Great eating!

Greektown is full of spinach pie and all other sorts of late, cheap eats. Architecture boat tour is wonderful. Mexican Art museum is in a charming, little Mexico neighborhood. Like a vacation within a vacation. Art museum is a ripoff: $20 and you ain't the Met!

Insider Tip:Take the bus up Lakeshore Drive with commuters for a beautiful ride past the beach and through some real, residential neighborhoods. Surgery Museum is awesome, allow at least 2 hours for it!

Great place to spend some time in.

Getting around can be tricky. It seems that transit routes are ALWAYS under major construction. The bus lines stops and routes are really well marked though. And I love Chicago-style Polish sausages!
