    Cologne, Germany

As far as cities go, Cologne is a pretty good one. There's a lot of atmosphere down by the water with nice restaurants and a couple of museums. It was busy without being over crowded, even around the major attractions. I visited the Nazi museum housed in the old Gestapo headquarters and I could not recommend it enough for anyone with an interest in the period of history. I suggest definitely taking a walk over the bridge that leads to/from the main train station to see the thousands of locks.

Insider Tip:Take an approx. 2 hour train to Cochem and hire a bike to ride to Eltz Castle. A beautiful ride along a river and hills covered in vines, it is about 20km each way but completely flat and relaxing. It is then a 2.5km walk through lovely forest to reach the amazing castle. Cochem also had a lovely castle, Reichsburg Castle. It was a fantastic day, and I cannot recommend it enough for anyone with an interest in the outdoors and castles.

Very fun. Beautiful Kolner Dom, extremely worthwhile to walk around it and inside it. Beautiful port area along Rhine that is alive at night. Good bars and restaurants. Known for art and architecture museums.

That's pretty much a regular city. There are only few extraordinary things to sightsee, as its Gothic cathedral and other places that didn't get destroyed during the WWII. Although it's a nice city and you can find interesting spots while you walk.

    Cologne

The city is a pretty fun cultural capital with a very walkable central/old city. The main train station is conveniently (albeit somewhat oddly) located next to one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Europe. The chain bridge is also a fun walk and gives a wonderful view of the old city. The city museum is interesting and has an English audio guide.

Insider Tip:The panoramic view across the river from the KölnTriangle is definitely worth the view!

Cologne has so much to see

Aside from the glaring Cathedral, Cologne had so much to do and see. Tons and tons of museums, including a great one about this history of Cologne that walks you through its Roman past.
