Cologne City Reviews

That's pretty much a regular city. There are only few extraordinary things to sightsee, as its Gothic cathedral and other places that didn't get destroyed during the WWII. Although it's a nice city and you can find interesting spots while you walk.

The city is a pretty fun cultural capital with a very walkable central/old city. The main train station is conveniently (albeit somewhat oddly) located next to one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Europe. The chain bridge is also a fun walk and gives a wonderful view of the old city. The city museum is interesting and has an English audio guide.

Insider Tip:The panoramic view across the river from the KölnTriangle is definitely worth the view!

Cologne has so much to see

Aside from the glaring Cathedral, Cologne had so much to do and see. Tons and tons of museums, including a great one about this history of Cologne that walks you through its Roman past.

Weird at night in the winter

Felt really weird at night. We visited in the winter. Drug dealers hanging around by the bridge/cathedral with not a care in the world, as people walk by. Restaurants at night on the river, in the quiet season, have a tacky feel about them - proprietors standing outside their restaurant urging you to come in. It was like being on a cheap Spanish holiday. Day time was pretty cool though. I say all this, I spent 24 hours there so I can't give a great account. Just what I experienced.

    Disappointment abounds!

Although Cologne offers a pleasant atmosphere, its city centre is not exactly pretty and offers very little of interest beyond the humongous cathedral. The local brews (Kölsch) definitely are highly overrated.
