Naples Pocket Guide

Images Of Naples

Naples is like an amalgamation of various Italian cities - it has the attitude of Milan, the sights of Rome, the passion of Venice and the culinary delights of Florence. It is noisy and slightly intimidating, but it is equally intriguing and extremely engaging. Plus it boasts one of the most spectacular settings in Italy, overlooking the Bay of Naples. Many who stop here only do so for a number of hours before going further south to Capri or Sorrento, as Naples is the gateway to both destinations. But if you are travelling to Naples, spend a day or two here before shooting off. You won't regret it.

    Crazy but beautiful city

Naples is crazy. The people's mentality is completely different from the western europe. Traffic is hell - one way streets are just a formality, red lights are a joke. I haven't seen a one car that wasn't at least scratched. Rear view mirrors are either folded or torn off. On the other hand, there's so much to visit and see, people, though they generally don't speak, are very kind and compared to other places in Italy, restaurants and other services are relatively cheap.

Insider Tip:If you see a pizzeria with loads of locals waiting outside, you can bet that this a cheap and very good restaurant. It works like this - you go inside, report your name and the number of persons you're coming with and than you wait outside for a free table. When they call you, you can sit and enjoy one of the best pizzas in city. Pizzeria "Decumani" is just one of such places.

    Napoli

The city of naples is a great destination for pizza lover like me. The ruins of Ercolano, Pompeii and the costal towns of Sorrento are not to far away either.

Insider Tip:Strait pizzeria, that is all. Great pizza for cheap prices.

    Naples is a cool city.

Naples is a cool city with an old-time feel. Gives it character. Also, best pizza anywhere. Get pizza as much as possible at Gino Sorbillo's. A lot of things to see in Naples.

Insider Tip:Avoid Venice and go to Naples. Venice is super-overrated. Thought I'd love it but didn't.

    Historic and underrated.

Naples gets a bad reputation for being a dirty city. While it is a little dirty, most cities are. There is so much rich history here and the food is incredible (it is the birth place of pizza after all)! Definitely one of my favorite cities I have visited. Visit Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii for sure.

Insider Tip:If you go on TripAdvisor you'll find package tours for Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius (and sometimes more!). We did one that came with lunch and guided tours and it was the best decision we made all trip. Would not have enjoyed Pompeii with the audio guide or all alone.

The most disgusting and dirty city in Europe

There are some hidden gems in this city that can make it amazing and the food is the best i have had in Europe. But the lack of security and high rate of crime in this city made me feel on edge all the time and i could not relax and really take in the sights and the culture all of my nights were spent inside and i was glad to leave after only two nights

Insider Tip:Come to Naples but be warned about the amount of theft and high rates of poverty. Is worth it for Pompeii
