Naples Pocket Guide

Images Of Naples

Naples is like an amalgamation of various Italian cities - it has the attitude of Milan, the sights of Rome, the passion of Venice and the culinary delights of Florence. It is noisy and slightly intimidating, but it is equally intriguing and extremely engaging. Plus it boasts one of the most spectacular settings in Italy, overlooking the Bay of Naples. Many who stop here only do so for a number of hours before going further south to Capri or Sorrento, as Naples is the gateway to both destinations. But if you are travelling to Naples, spend a day or two here before shooting off. You won't regret it.

    Naples!!! crazy city!!

naples has awesome pizza. its dirty but its fun. lots of characters and the youth take over the streets at night. its super compared to other Italian cities yet still as fun. everyone is super helpful and nonthreatening.

Insider Tip:Find fried pizza. Eat Di Mateo's fried vegetables. Go to catacombs san d'ella and Fontanelle cemetery. Go on day trips (pompeii, amalfi coast, capri, sorrento, ischaria island..etc.)

Where to feel really welcome in Italy

Awesome and at the same time messy city. But absolutely worth to visit! I was impressed by the little narrow streets, old Vespas and the caotic traffic. It is very different from most os Italian cities, but for sure more welcoming than any other place I've been on the country (especially northern cities). And all this without mentioning the superb and renowned pizza and pastry! It is a relatively inexpensive city.

    Naples is OK.

Having just come from Rome and Florence, Naples was kind of boring. I went there with the intention of visiting Pompei but after Rome and Florence I had already seen too many ruins so I just visited the Amalfi cost instead. Sorrento and Positano were beautiful but expensive and really a destination for couples and families (not travelers on a budget). I've heard that there is also some good hiking by those coastal towns.

    Insider Tip:Eat pizza.

Napoli is an amazing city with tons to do and is easily navigated. I was a little apprehensive after hearing some reviews of a 'gritty' city, but aside from some graffiti and liter which EVERY city has Napoli is filled with amazing people, food, and great sites.

Insider Tip:Most Do's: Pompei, Vesuvius, Capri boat tour (80 E best money you'll ever spend), Sorrento, Positano, and Amalfi. There is a local beach about 20 cab ride from hostel called LaGioia GO THERE! And eat at Matteo's Pizza. There are also parties at the main Piazza every night.

Naples is a really great city. If you want authentic Southern Italy, this is definitely the place to go. The pizza is as good as they say, so eat up. Easy city to get around, the metro is super easy and cheap (p.s. go to the Toledo stop, it's ranked the most beautiful train station in Europe). Go down to the coast as well, it's relaxing and gorgeous.

Insider Tip:Go up to the hill and you'll get a gorgeous view of Naples on the hillside. You take the rail car to get up there. Go to Gino's pizza, it's supposedly the original and it's very good. My favorite gelato was Fantasie Gelato, worth a trip!
