Naples Pocket Guide

Images Of Naples

Naples is like an amalgamation of various Italian cities - it has the attitude of Milan, the sights of Rome, the passion of Venice and the culinary delights of Florence. It is noisy and slightly intimidating, but it is equally intriguing and extremely engaging. Plus it boasts one of the most spectacular settings in Italy, overlooking the Bay of Naples. Many who stop here only do so for a number of hours before going further south to Capri or Sorrento, as Naples is the gateway to both destinations. But if you are travelling to Naples, spend a day or two here before shooting off. You won't regret it.

Naples - An Italian City like no other.

Naples, the birthplace of pizza and a city with a passion for good coffee. There's so much to do in both the city of Naples and the surrounding areas. Pompeii, Herculaneum and Capri to name just a few. Not forgetting the best pizza in the world either: Da Michele.

Insider Tip:Go and do the horse riding tour up mount Vesuvius.

*BEST CITY IN ITALY! *according to me

HIGHLIGHTS: Catching a ferry to the clear, turquoise waters of Capri Island & hiring a motor boat for the day with random travelers. Drinking beer and eating Pizza at the famous 'Pizzeria da Michele' from the movie Eat.Pray.Love. Hiring a taxi driver that dove like Michael schumacher.

Insider Tip:Visit the local islands and jump of the rocks in to crystal clear water Guarantee a table at the famous 'Pizzeria da Michele' by arriving before 7pm - 20min walk from hostel. Watch out for Gypsy at the train station. Seriously.

Napoli is a beautiful city, and I mean beautiful. Everywhere you look there's a cathedral, or a castle or whatever building that is absolutely breathtaking. The drivers are pretty crazy here though, and you might not feel as safe on the streets as in other italian cities, but as long as you're careful everything will be just fine. The ruins of Pompei are just 30 to 40 minutes away by train.

Insider Tip:You MUST try the pizza here. I personally recommend Brandi Pizzeria (where the first pizza margherita was made) and Da Michele's.

Naples, a place to see and learn

Naples is, perhaps, not a city only to see, but to feel and understand. Some places that are labeled as sketchy are very inbteresting and full of history. Worth to visit and be intrigued by some of the oldest and most important historical spots in Europe. On the other hand, giants museums and a breathtaking coast, with one of the most famous volcanos in the world over your head and being the cradle of pizza are extra points too.

    Naples Nightlife

I spent 16 nights in Naples doing what locals do, Eating Pizza, drinking in various bars, squares and at outdoor DJ sets until 3/4.00am There was a steady range of DJ music venues with local none English speaking Italians enjoying music expressions and generally just hanging out :)

Insider Tip:I do not speak Italian, but was fortunate to link up with cool Italians who were safe and spoke English. So travelling around to these different venues was safe for me. I was advised not to attempt negotiation of the city at night alone as Italian and non Italians were vulnerable to attacks in certain areas.
