Naples Pocket Guide

Images Of Naples

Naples is like an amalgamation of various Italian cities - it has the attitude of Milan, the sights of Rome, the passion of Venice and the culinary delights of Florence. It is noisy and slightly intimidating, but it is equally intriguing and extremely engaging. Plus it boasts one of the most spectacular settings in Italy, overlooking the Bay of Naples. Many who stop here only do so for a number of hours before going further south to Capri or Sorrento, as Naples is the gateway to both destinations. But if you are travelling to Naples, spend a day or two here before shooting off. You won't regret it.

    Best city in Italy

A lot of people told me not to go to Naples, but they were wrong! It is one of the cheapest cities in the country, with the best food and with an amazing view! Go for it!

Insider Tip:Try every food! The pizza napolitana is really amazing!

    A vivacious city

I love Napoli! Its different busy, antique so much history I was even able to connect with my Jewish history there. The food is delicious the people are generous, kind full of life and energy. I am a new person because of my beloved Napoli.

Insider Tip:Don't visit Pompeii its a waste of time Herculim is better & has more art work & original items.

Naples (not as nice as you think!)

I rarely get off a train and head into a city and immediately feel unsafe - welcome to Naples! The main city centre is rather scummy. The metro stations also feel this way with only the train line to Pompeii actually having any helpful staff in it! The long walk round to Naples bay was nice but there isn't really much here, no beaches either. I'm thought Naples would be colourful and have a beach - perhaps I should have done more research as it was dirty and drab!

Insider Tip:Waiters don't speak English, they list various things to you which you think are the toppings you get but they are actually extra charges! Try and pay exact as automatically just keep the change they owe you as a tip and "wont understand" if you question this!

Naples - An Italian City like no other.

Naples, the birthplace of pizza and a city with a passion for good coffee. There's so much to do in both the city of Naples and the surrounding areas. Pompeii, Herculaneum and Capri to name just a few. Not forgetting the best pizza in the world either: Da Michele.

Insider Tip:Go and do the horse riding tour up mount Vesuvius.

*BEST CITY IN ITALY! *according to me

HIGHLIGHTS: Catching a ferry to the clear, turquoise waters of Capri Island & hiring a motor boat for the day with random travelers. Drinking beer and eating Pizza at the famous 'Pizzeria da Michele' from the movie Eat.Pray.Love. Hiring a taxi driver that dove like Michael schumacher.

Insider Tip:Visit the local islands and jump of the rocks in to crystal clear water Guarantee a table at the famous 'Pizzeria da Michele' by arriving before 7pm - 20min walk from hostel. Watch out for Gypsy at the train station. Seriously.
