    Riga

We were spending our NY holidays at Riga cause it's not far from Kiev Riga is a beautiful city, specially in NY time - many decorations, it was nice! I don't think that you need more than 2-3 day to do all sightseeing so notice that. Nothing to do in Yurmala in winter, may be you can visit Sigula (but I recommend to visit it only on weekends)

Insider Tip:Lido's food is good =)

    center of Latvian history

With piles of interesting museums and monuments, the city still preserves truths in relation to the Soviet past, so it can be attractive to those who are interested in history.

not much to see other than a few old buildings that didn't really float my boat. a bit sleepy for my tastes.

    Great Christmas Destination!

I spent 4 chilly days in Riga and it really got me in the Christmas mood - lovely traditional markets serving mulled wine and ginger bread, the Daugava had started to freeze over, and there was always a nice warm cafe or shop to duck into if the fingers started getting a little too cold...

Insider Tip:Get a bus out to Sigulda and hike across the Gauja Valley to Turaida castle, fantastic unspoilt scenery and a nice break from the city.

Unfortunately lots of tourists see the town as a cheap playground for adluts (esp. from Britain). That's a pity because the town offers so much more than cheap alcohol and naked dancing girls!
