The Walrus Hostel

The dorm room was uncomfortably hot at night and my pillows and sheets looked very dirty/ very used. Great for people who just want a bed, but this is really all you get (and a springy squeaky one at that). Other hostels I have stayed in put much more effort in giving advice and helping you settle, all were cleaner and none have had bedding as dirty as here. Really didn't enjoy my stay here.

Great bar and excellent value for money. The street the Hostel is located on has loads of character. Closest thing to a 'good location' as you can get in a city the size of Shanghai. Toilets and Showers are cubicles, so not very private and a little smelly. No maid service unless it is asked for and some rooms without windows. Washing facilities are difficult to use (at least for non-Chinese speakers) as instructions are not in English, we had trouble using the dryer in particular.

Very small rooms and ensuite - and some bedrooms without a window. But very clean. No common room. Helpful and friendly staff and great location, surrounded by bars and close to all the major sights. Overall, a great hostel.
