Basically a fun, creaky old mansion. Definitely get an ocean view if you can... the view is great! Wifi could have been a bit more reliable in the common area, but $1 beers are hard to beat and the staff make sure you're squared away!

Solid hostel... pretty much as advertised. The staff will help you with directions to pretty much any destination you need to get to, and the free walking tout departs from the lobby. Hard to beat.

Definitely a hotel. Was great for a treat on the last night of my trip, but basically zero atmosphere.

Actually a hotel, with hostel rooms built in. The rooms are very nice (wifi, individual TVs, wrap around curtains etc.), but outside of that it's not really a hostel... no common room or organized activities. Also, while it's a short walk to the MRT station, there isn't much going on around the hotel itself.

I booked a private room to relax after Christmas, which had a private balcony overlooking the Tamsui river. The room was very nice, but solo travelers looking to meet people may have a tough time as their isn't really a common room. Also, the Tamsui station is a considerable ride from the center of the city, so plan to spend a lot of time on the MRT if you want to check out downtown Taipei.

Average hostel with a big common room in the center. The staff were very knowledgeable and had plenty of info on the city, and were eager to help. Within walking distance of the MRT & Raohe night market.
Thank you for taking the time to rate and review us. It was a pleasure to mark the end of 2014 with you and we hope to see you again in 2015!

Awesome hostel, something going on every night and plenty of people to go out with. Also, the walking tour hits some of the tourist highlights. The castaways trip to Halong Bay is a bunch of fun.... but basically just an excuse to drink on a small island. Book your tour through another agency if you're looking for the picture perfect version.
Hey, Thank you for your review and taking the time to give us some feedback. I am glad to see you had a great stay in our hostel, and that you enjoyed our walking tour that we offer. I am also happy to see you had a good time on our Halong bay Castaway tour. We hope to see you again in the future and that the rest of the travels went well. Cheers, Downtown Manager

A smaller version of the Backpackers downtown, but both meet up for the same pub crawl every night. Definitely a good time. Also, be wary of the castaways tour unless you're only interested in drinking, instead of actually seeing Halong Bay.

Great hostel on located in the prime spot of HCMC. Organizes a pub crawl 3x a week, and other activities in the bar on off days. Only downside: very spotty wifi, and only one elevator + a narrow flight of stairs to get to all the rooms upstairs.

Great hostel with plenty going on, a bit of a hike to most bars & restaurants.

Great hostel, organizes groups to see the Angkor Wat if you're traveling solo. Also, very close to Pub Street & the night market. Only downside, there was an issue with the wifi, so everyone had to come down to the common room to connect to the internet.

Not really a place to meet people as the common room is more of a tiny hallway, but the location is unbeatable. The only major downside is you are right below a daycare, so if you stay during the week plan on getting woken up by a bunch of toddlers running, screaming and crying above you.
