The rooms were kept clean and the kitchen facilities were excellent. The only downside was that the showers on the second floor seemed to keep breaking over the weekend so you had to go on a bit of a hunt to find one! There were, however, plenty of showers available so don't let it put you off!!

Nice hostel, if not a little hollow. They have all the mod-cons and the staff have all the info you might need for getting around (except street maps). The bar downstairs isn't dedicated to hostel-goers, it is just a (sports) bar for the locals and their families. It kinda changes the vibe. The reception is helpful, but there are two points for 500 travellers at any one time. Be prepared to queue for the simplest of queries. They could do more to encourage hostel-goers to hang out.

Fattoria del Bassetto

You won't do better than this for a hostel. Do not be put off by the fact that it is an hour outside of Florence because you are still perfectly situated to visit Florence, Siena, Pisa and anywhere else you want to go! You cannot get a more picturesque building if you tried, the staff are super-helpful, Lucca (the resident black lab) is gorgeous and the BBQ/Pool/WiFi/Kitchen are the real deal. If you lack navigational skills (like me) then get a taxi from the station and prepare to relax...

They facilitate loads of trips and activities for you and the bar is cheap too. The people I met there were awesome and it was really secure. I recommend that you take the chef up on the meal offer, espcially if your diet has been lacking in vegetables! Breakfast is cool, a good selection of cereals, toast and tea/coffee. They also host really cool live bands in the hostels (DIXIE TICKLERS) so there is always something to do besides watch the widescreen TV!

A nice little hostel. It is a bit out of the way (20 minute drive) but they are more than willing to come and pick you up. The rooms themselves are quite snug, I was in an 8-bedroom with little walking space but you did have a wardrobe and two hot showers in the bathroom. You enter through the side of a bar with cheap (1.5 Euro) sangria and beer, which can't be sniffed at! The family that own it are super friendly, and the building itself is very pretty.

Nice little hostel in a cool part of the town. At the end of the road, there is a square with a few bars that are definitely worth checking out. Even if you don't hit the bar, you can take some drinks down to the square and chat with the locals. The staff are helpful and the place is quite secure, although there are no lockers. To be honest, you won't need them. The kitchenette in the room proved useful and encouraged social eating and drinking. Nice place in a gorgeous town.

Hostel One Paralelo

The most amazing hostel ever! The staff are fantastic and help with any questions or queries you might have. Valerio, Angel and Thomas are brilliant, they know all of the places to go and eat/drink/view. Angel took us to a nightclub for free in the heart of Barcelona, after cooking more tortilla than 15 people could possibly eat! I am definitely returning to this hostel, you definitely need to be there!!!!
