Hotel Pearl Palace

Jaipur, India
94%

This is my second stay at the Pearl Palace Hotel and it is a great base in Jaipur. The rooms are clean, with everything you need, the wifi is good, the rooftop restaurant is a real gem and people come from many other hotels to eat here as they serve meat and beer/wine which is relatively rare. The staff are helpful and although the hotel a little way from the centre of Jaipur, there are always plenty of rickshaws waiting to take you wherever you need to go.

This is an absolute gem of a hotel. The rooms are spotless, spacious and thoughtfully furnished with everything you could possibly need. The showers are hot and the wifi works well. The rooftop, vegetarian restaurant serves very good food and is a nice place to relax, as is their 'lounge' on the second floor of the hotel. The staff are exceptionally helpful and honest and went out of their way to make my stay comfortable. Israr the recommended rickshaw driver is wonderful.

Panorama Guest House

Udaipur, India
66%

We were disappointed by the panorama guesthouse. The reviews on here and the pictures were so good that we opted to stay here and booked a deluxe room. We have both travelled extensively in India and whilst the room was clean and the hotel in a good location, the spartan rooms did not match the value for money we have found elsewhere in the country, or indeed Rajasthan. The roof top restaurant was nice enough but service was terrible and one morning we waited 45 minutes for cornflakes and toast.

Hotel Surja Guest House

Jaisalmer, India

This guest house is full of character. Our room was large with a window seat overlooking the town below. It had beautiful glass mosaics laid inside the walls and traditional furnishings. The bed was a little hard and uncomfortable but overall it was a nice room. The roof terrace was stunning with cushioned sit outs on the ramparts of the fort, very good wifi and a popular restaurant. It was one of the only places we found with some atmosphere at night with its candle lit tables.

Sarvar Guest House

Jodhpur, India

This hotel was possibly our biggest disappointment in India so far. We arrived at 6pm off a long train ride to find that the room had not been prepared or cleaned, despite the guests checking out that morning and our reserveation being made several days previously. We were asked to wait on the roof while they cleaned it. When we finally got into the room it was filthy. The bathroom hadn't been cleaned, and the sheets had been straightened but not changed. The shower didn't work either.

The North Face Inn

Pokhara, Nepal
91%

The north face inn is run by a genuinely lovely family and they are doing a great job. The rooms are the cleanest we came across in Nepal, big, with comfy beds and many have balconies. The guest house is set slightly off the main road in Lakeside which means it is peaceful and quiet. No views of the lake unfortunately, and although they stress that you can come back whenever you like, the family lock up and go to bed at about 10.30 so perhaps not one for late birds. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Elbrus Home

Kathmandu, Nepal
74%

Having sampled a few different hotels and hostels in Kathmandu I can certainly say that Elbrus was one of the best we came across. The location is excellent, just a few yards from the bustling alleys of Thamel, but slightly outside the chaos. Elbrus has a wonderful rooftop garden where you can enjoy the free breakfast and the wifi. The rooms are a mixed bag.On the pricey side for what you get but adequate and seemed clean enough. The owner, though friendly can be a little overbearing.

Happy Dragon Courtyard

Beijing, China
94%

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Happy Dragon. We had a private double room that was spotless and dotted with characterful features. The room was cleaned daily. The hostel had a wonderful bar/restaurant in the central courtyard with extremely friendly staff, great food, wonderful coffee and themed evenings such as dumpling making, BBQs, and video night that would be perfect to meet people if you were travelling alone. There was also wifi available. Would definitely go back again.
