The New York Loft Hostel

New York, USA

Felt very safe. Located in Brooklyn near subway station, which made it easy to see Brooklyn but still somewhat of a hassle to go to and from Manhattan. Staff is quite helpful and eager to help, arranged for our group of three to be in a single room. Breakfast is simple toast, cereal, frozen waffles, and milk. Bedroom is clean and comfortable with air-conditioning. Washroom was kept clean, but its general appearance and the sort of material used for its floor give a feeling of being run-down.

Safestay York

York, England

Stayed on weekdays, so avoided the noise from stag-and-hen parties—the walls were not good at blocking out noise. Staff courteous and helpful, especially in taking the initiative to fiddle with the router when the Wi-Fi (free) experienced problems. The building has quite some history, and its rooms mark interesting stories of their past residents. The ensuite bathroom was compact and could get a little dirty, but there were always better-kept public bathrooms in the hostel. Good free breakfast!
