This was the best hostel I've ever stayed in. There was an amazing fresco on our ceiling and the room was huge. The view was out over the duomo and the location couldn't be beat. There are cheaper hostels in Florence, but this one is worth the extra money. My only complaint was that the wifi only worked in the common room, but this was easily overlooked.
We spent one night here in the 20 bed dorm. There were 2 fans and all the windows were open, so the heat wasn't really an issue. There is a grocery store right next door and cooking facilities with ample dining space. Free wifi and printing for 20c per page was great. No plugs in the room but plenty in the common room. Great for a one or two night stop over.
Backpackers should avoid this hostel at all costs. The staff are rude and unsympathetic. As per the request of the property, we arrived at our declared time. We were told that our booking had been cancelled since the hostel had "cancelled their subscription to Hostelworld" despite having a Hostelworld plaque on their wall. This hostel does not care about the business they receive from this site and will treat you in a similar fashion. A real pity because the facilities and rooms were very nice.
We really enjoyed our stay at Guesthouse Gara. The owner is very sweet and personable! It is not a 25 minute walk to the city, but it is very close to three buses that run regularly and only take 10 minutes so the location was not an inconvenience for us. The wifi never worked for us and there were no cooking facilities, but a grocery store right across the street. It was also right across the street from the ferry terminal and bus terminal which was great for our arrival and departure.
This was a great hostel and had a fantastic atmosphere. It's a party hostel, so I'd recommend choosing another place if that will bother you. We had a great time :)
There were a lot of additional fees at this hostel -- like a fee for the locker in your room. I had to ask for a towel, which was meant to be included, so it seemed a bit disorganized. The showers don't have any private space to change, so be prepared to bare all to anyone else in the bathroom. The kitchen facilities were fantastic.
The hostel was very nice and clean, however the location was very far from the main sites and in a sketchy area. Also, there was no breakfast offered and the staff tended to be unhelpful and all spoke very poor english. Overall, its too expensive for what you get. It did have a nice terrace though and had a really cool atmosphere.
It was disproportionately small for the number of people it hosted and felt very claustrophobic. Bathrooms and showers were nothing more than closets, and the breakfast was poorly set up and also felt very crammed. There is a common room, but if a group is watching a movie there is nowhere else to go, since the kitchen area closes at 10. Staff were unhelpful and sometimes rude. The luggage room was unsecure and anyone could go in or out as they pleased.

Amazingly clean and very safe. I would stay there again in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Stockholm.
I stayed there for 3 nights and had a blast. The staff were very helpful and nice and the rooms and bathrooms were relatively clean. The location was awesome! We were right in the heart of Amsterdam, but still in a quiet area. My only complaint was that there were mice. If you do stay here (which I recommend you do) try to keep food and personal items up high on your bed or in one of their lockers.
