Chicago Getaway Hostel

Chicago, USA

Stayed 3 nights in a twin private. Good location near lots of bars and food. Just a few blocks form the Train. Clean bathrooms and nice kitchen with plenty of room for your stuff. Staff very helpful. The only CONS are - The room was short on outlets and had very thin walls and you could hear everyones doors slamming all night. Would highly receommend. This will be where I stay whenever I visit Chicago.

Sanlitun Youth Hostel

Stayed 5 nights. Rooms and bathrooms were cleaned often. each bed had light, power and locker. Rooms had aircon. The staff were fairly good, but often seemed preoccupied, and only a handful of them spoke English. They were not very good at offering assistance with tourism stuff. The bar/restaurant was way overpriced but did offer a convenient place to hang out. Wifi was so-so. The location was very good as it was near the Sanlitun Village with lots of restaurants/bars and shopping.

Clean rooms and bathrooms with aircon. Lockers, power at each bed. Wifi was good. Rooms were on multiple floors so the atmosphere was rather non-existent. Location was close to most everything needed, staff was very helpful. Would stay at again, but my friend had a better experience elsewhere with a rooftop terrace more conducive to meeting people. Still a good place.

Stayed 1 night. Was the best of the 3 hostels I stayed at in Chengdu, (location, staff and atmosphere). Room was a bit tights but had aircon and power receptacle in addition to small lockers. Bar area had cheap drinks and was a good place to meet people. Location was excellent. Staff very helpful.

Stayed one night. Location is decent, rooms are clean with power receptacle and small locker. No aircon in my room and it was a bit hot. Hostel had a great bar/restaurant with good prices and decent area to hang out. Much better than the Sleepy Fish (couple/family oriented) where I stayed the day prior. Would stay here again.

Mama Naxi`s Guesthouse

stayed 4 nights. clean beds, power receptacles at each bed, small lockers. No aircon but it wasn't a problem. the family dinner is a must every night at 1830, meet fellow travelers and have a great home cooked dinner for cheap. Bring your own toilet paper as none is supplied and beware of the 0200 curfew. Great staff. Mama is awesome. I would definitely stay again.

Stayed 3 nights. Rooms are tight but each bunk has power, light, curtains, and lockers. Wifi was good (not in the rooms). Bathroom facilities were adequate. The location wasn't the best but it was near bus stops and north bus station. Big place with lots of places to hang out which almost made it harder to meet people because everyone was so spread out between the gardens, bar, loft etc. Staff was very helpful. I would stay again but would prefer hostel with better location

Easy Go Hostel

Stayed 2 nights and hung out there a 3rd. Cost and atmosphere make this a can't be beat hostel. Small lockers at the front of the hostel for personal valuables. Dorms are basic as are the bathrooms. If you can't meet people here then there might be something wrong with you. Can't beat the price. The staff were exceptionally helpful, to inlcude letting me use their phone for an interview back in the USA (I of course bought the top off cards for minutes). I would definitely stay here again.

stayed 3 nights in 12bed dorm. Clean hostel, big lockers, light and ac outlet for each bed. Aircon during the evening. A bit outside of the main area but not so much as to be a negative as the entire town is very quiet. There were only 2 english speaking staff so if they weren't there you had to wait for help. Common area is just ok. Would stay here again

The Mad Monkey Siem Reap

stayed 2 nights in 6 bed dorm. Hostel is clean, dorms have small lockers for personal stuff/small laptops and aircon. Big draw for the hostel is the rooftop bar which has a sand pit floor, plenty of comfy couch or hammock seating and easy to meet people throughout the day. Location a bit out of the way but not a problem as it is in a quieter area and the bar makes up for it. Would definitely stay here again

NgocThao GuestHouse

Stayed 2 nights. Nice clean hostel/guesthouse. No frills. Staff were exceptionally helpful. Rooms clean and had big lockers, each bed had a light and electric outlet. Location is in the backpacker district, but down a quiet little alley. Common area is small so not as easy to meet people.

Hue Backpackers Hostel

Stayed 2 nights. OK experieince. Aircon didn't work the 2nd night. Multiple people received electrical shocks while showering or using the bathroom. Staff worked hard to fix the issues but were unable to and offered no compensation. Bar seems like a good place to meet people though it is spendy. Location was average. Staff were genereally good and helpful.

Stayed 2 nights. Bathrooms generally clean and seemd to be enough of them. No common room, instead there is an actual bar, which closes early, then the 'common' area ceases to function. They charge for lockers to leave your luggage in. The location really wasnt that good, even with the metro. Its what you expect to find from a large chain hostel, just a money maker for them, a bed for you.

Aloha Hostel

Paris, France

stayed two nights. decent roomand bed. the only staff person I ever saw was excellent. No lockers. Common area very disjointed, not as easy to meet people. The showers are disgusting. Location is in a very non-touristy area which is a plus, and very close to the metro or a short walk to the Eiffel tower. Like all the hostels in Paris, breakfast is bread and jam. For the money I'd stay there again, just be sure to have good shower shoes!

stayed 3 nights. Good value for the money. Easy walk into the old town or near a tram line. Not filthy, but that cleaing lady couldnt keep up witht he messy backpackers while I was there. Planty of bathrooms. Common area is a bit small but workable. not enough lockers for every bed. Staf was very good and knowledgable. FYI great restaurant right on the corner

Sir Toby's Hostel

Stayed 2 nights. OK experience. location is ok, right on a tram line, which you need as its too far from the old town to walk. The rooms were ok, adequate number of bathrooms (1 toilet / 2 shower/toilets per the two connectted dorms I stayed in 20beds). The lockers were too small for a laptop. Good luck finding an outlet to charge your phones/computers etc. Breakfast is great if you dont mind or have the skill to cook for yourself. If you cant cook or dont want to then its a waste.

nice hostel. very clean, plenty of bathrooms, good lockers, very helpful staff. Dont worry about the location when looking at the map, its easily only a 10min walk to the square. The comon room has great potential, good kitchen. I would definitely stay here again.

stayed 1 night. good common room, each bunk has its own light and lockers are large. Bed was comy. There is a bar right downstairs. Not many people there during my stay but it has potential for good atmosphere.

Stayed 1 night, wich I could have stayed more. The location while far from city center, is only 5min by bus and the buses are frequent. Mama and Papa are fun to hang out with, I had a nice evening drinking whiskey w/ Papa. Wifi is good, nice common room, the rooms are clean, big lockers. This is a good place to come and hang out. Not worth it for just a single night so book more than one.

The Warsaw Hostel

Warsaw, Poland
94%

Stayed 3 nights. The Good: Nice clean hostel with plenty of bathrooms and showers. Location is tucked away in a quiet area but an easy walk to anything in 10min or less. The staff was very helpful. The Bad: heavy doors to rooms and bathrooms and people not having been raised to close doors quietly leads to constant doors slamming at all hours, and the doors are heavy enough they shake the walls of your room or common area. No computers so bring your own. Rooms a bit hot. Would stay again.

Dear Chris, We already have a computer for guests ;) and we are working on guieting doors, so we hope next time when you'll be here there will be nothing to complain ;) it was a real pleaure to host you here, remember that you are always welcome to The Warsaw Hostel. Cheers!

Stayed 4 days. Thought about staying longer. Excellent staff. breakfast AND dinner included and were really good. My only complaints are the rooms were hot, though you wouldnt notice until you woke up w/ a hangover after comming in around 0500. Next problem is a 1000 checkout. Otherwise one of the better hostels I've stayed in. Would definitely stay again.

TIU Front Page Hostel

Odessa, Ukraine

Stayed 4 nights. Just like the previous reviews say, don't freak out when you see/small the stairwell :) The hostel is actually clean. Kitchen is fully equiped, location pretty darn good,24hr market right next door. 3 bathrooms / 3 showers though the showers can be dark in the evening. Wouldn't mind it if they started their vacuuming a bit later as the bar/club scene will leave you out late at night, the vacuuming will surely wake you. and dont forget to pet the cat. Would stay again.

Owner Comment (Hide)
Sorry Chris but checkout is at 11 and check-in is 11.30......which gives us 30 minutes to vacuum the required areas....If we tried to schedule cleaning around people sleeping the place would never get clean because someone is always asleep somewhere in the hostel. As for the showers being dark?....well , each shower pod has a built in light and there a signs instructing guests how to use them...of course if you don't read the signs or ask the staff then yes....you might shower in the dark :)

Hostel Kiev Backpackers

Kiev, Ukraine
89%

stayed 2 nights. Not likely to stay there again. Small hostel in a good location. 14 or 16 beds. No common area other than a very small kitchen. Only 1 bathroom but at least the shower and toilet are separated so you dont have to wait to go if someone is showering. All the prior reviews that talk about party atmosphere etc were based on when the owner used to live there and the euro cup. Now that he no longer lives there it is very quiet and the common room was converted to a private room.

Dream House Hostel

Kiev, Ukraine

Stayed 2 nights. All in all it was a very nice, clean and well equiped hostel, the staff was awesome.. But with over 90 beds and the arrangement it was really more like a hotel. The common area wasn't well designed for meeting people. There is a good cheap cafeteria with good food not too far. Otherwise location ws just ok. I'd stay again if I was looking for an inexpensive hotel, but not if I was looking to meet people or just hang out.

Now we are working on landscaping the yard. We will have a seating area in the green yard. I hope the next time you will be able to enjoy conversation even outdoors)))

The Monk's Bunk Vilnius

Vilnius, Lithuania

stayed 1 night. Its a bit of a walk to the main attractions but not terrible. Bathrooms (3) were good. Dorms worked just fine. The common room was very small and didnt really suit hanging out and meeting people. The staff helped me out with my flight and seemed friendly. For the price it is a great place to stay, but I had a better experience elsewhere in town just a 'jump' away.

Jimmy Jumps House/Hostel

Stayed 2 nights, wish I could have stayed more but I didnt book enough nights. One of the best hostels on this trip. Smaller and and very sociable (no more than 20 beds?). The staff are great, and its very clean. Its not a party hostel but lots of socializing and so easy to meet people here. Plus waffels in the morning! Stayedin other hostels in Vilnius and this is the only one I'd go back to. Just make sure you look at the photo for the only (and tiny) defining mark on the front door.

Stayed 3 nights. I asked tfor a recommendation on hostels in Riga and was given 1 for a party hostel, 1 for a chill out hostel and 1 in between. This is the inbetween. I'd recommend picking a party or a chillout hostel. The squirel is nice and clean, great staff, great security, but has over 90 beds and the common area just isnt geared for either a fun/party atmosphere or a chillout place. Really felt more like a hotel to me. Good place, and would stay again but would prefer elswhere.

Tallinn Backpackers

Tallinn, Estonia
97%

booked 2 nights, stayed 4. As all the other reviews say, this is a party hostel. Do not even think about coming here if you want to stay in at night surfing the net as they close the common room at 2300 and start the pub crawl EVERYNIGHT! The staff is excellent, the rooms are clean, the beer is cheap. The only iffy part of the hostel is the bathroom. There are two toilets, one behind the receptionist (dont forget about that one), and only 1 shower for over 20 guests, but it worked out fine.

Goodnight Lisbon Hostel

Lisbon, Portugal

Stayed 1 night due to over booking elsewhere. This hostel was nice, not great, but nice is just fine. I was told it wasn't a party hostel when I arrived as I had just come from one, and it certainly wasnt one. very quiet (inside- outside was a busy street). good breakfast. could use more information on activities / tourism stuff.

The staff, and I mean ALL the staff including the cleaning lady are incredibly friendly and helpful, and they make you fell welcome. I stayed 4 nigts. ------The only flaw, and this depends on you, if you dont like the big hostels, and this one is big, then it won't do------ that said, despite its size and "party hostel" status, I found it more than quiet enough. I would stay again.

stayed 2 nights. Clean. Lots of activities to chose from. Large hostel with lots of people so it shouldnt be too hard to meet people. plenty of bathrooms to chose from including those in the room, a definite plus. While not THE greatest location, it was still very close to most anything you wanted. The staff was very helpful.

Riad Chez Lea

stayed 2 nights. Overall there is nothing wrong with this place other than a very cramped 5 person room. Location isnt as good as some of the others but still ok. When I booked, there were over 80 reviews giving it a 99% rating. I just dont see it as 99%. I can see 88-90 with a really good collection of people there. Again, nothing wrong with the place, just not as great as the rating suggests. As with al the hostels i've found in Morocoo,e directions seem to be lacking as well.

Owner Comment (Hide)
Hi there, Many thanks for your review. That you disagree with the overall rating for the hostel is absolutely fine as it is your opinion of which you are entitled. As indeed, our other guests are entitled too and it seems that they may disagree with you. In terms of directions lacking - when you make your reservation you are given a detailed map, a you-tube video and a phone number with the advice that we would be happy to meet you in the square to accompany you to the hostel. Therefore, we can't see how directions or guidance are lacking as you are given literally every means (apart from holding you hand!) for you to get to the hostel easily. Best wishes and please - we advise any future guests - if you are concerned or worried about finding us - just call - we are really happy to collect you!

Kismet Dao Hostel

Brasov, Romania

stayed here 3 nights. Very clean. The staff was very helpfull. location is good, but still a short walk to most anything. However it is in a quiet neighborhood - the only downside to this is on a nice evening you can't be outside in their enormous backyard after 10 due to noise. Not a terrible problem. Movie room is a plus. They have a day trip to see Peles, Bran and Rastnov castles - this is a good quick tour, but would rather have far more time at Peles.

Stayed 2 nights. Very cleen room and public areas. You may read other reviews about small combined bathroom/shower - they are small but get over it, this isn't a 5-star hotel. They do just fine. location is excellent and the staff was very helpful. The restaurant is also very afordable and good. I would stay here again

Hostel Mostel

Sofia, Bulgaria

stayed 3 nights 8 person dorm at Hostel Mostel in Sofia. Spagetti dinner is included in price, that was a nice surprise. The hostel itself is rather large, a bit large for me as there were so many people there. The rooms came with a small locker for valuables. The bathrooms were clean, staff was generally very helpful. my only complaint, and this is on me, is if you aren't into a big crowd, this might not be the place for you. -----Also I highly recommend hostel Mostel in Veliko Tarnovo!!!

small hostel in the heart of the old town. I loved the location. there are two locations for this place, The one in the middle of oldtown has a small dorm and a "2 person private". dont do the private, its a closet, stick with the dorm. The staff is accomodating and very friendly. dont forget your shower shoes here. stayed 2 nights .I'd stay here again.

Bahaus Hostel

Great location, just like all the other reviews attest. Easy to meet people at breakfast or at the rooftop bar. Very clean, and staff will assist you with all of your needs. Bring a small lock for the lockers as the average size lock wont fit, or you can purchase one here - too easy. Bring earplugs if you have trouble sleeping as this is a very social/party hostel (a plus in my book).

The Good - - Great staff, all friendly and work to accomadate your needs - Clean rooms, good bedding, more than 1 pillow! - Great travel agency attached - Has a bar and a chef, adequately priced food and drink - Plenty of common space to meet people, or sit in front of the tele and veg. - Easy to meet people!! Just OK - reception closes by 10pm and doesn't open again until 8am - plan accordingly - the 4 person rooms do not have lockers for your stuff. 8 person dorms do. they charge for safes
