Santiago Guesthouse Hiroshima, Hiroshima, Japan

Had a great stay here. It's really well situated in relation to the peace park and a-bomb dome but it is a bit of a walk to the train and Shinkansen. Had a great stay really polite staff and for a 28 bed dorm you wouldn't know it as it's quite private.

Going to Kyoto? Stay here. I was only in Kyoto for one night but this hostel blew me away. Well situated right near Kyoto Station it's a modern hostel with all of the comforts you could possibly want: comfortable bed, privacy in the bunks, wifi, power etc. great amenities and a kickass cafe right downstairs. These guys have hit the nail on the head. I'll be back.

Space Hostel Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan

I had a great stay at Space Hostel. Very clean and comfortable with accomodating staff. My one drawback would be that there wasn't much of an atmosphere (the jazz music in the common room was very relaxing -just not my thing though). If you're in Tokyo to get stuff done quickly it's well located near Iriya and Ueno though and you won't have trouble getting plenty of sleep.

Hostel Quetzal, Cancun, Mexico

Quetzal is amazing!! Stay here. The included meals are awesome and dinner comes with a shot (mandatory). The location is out of the hotel zone, downtown but not an issue, right near the ado or the local bus is 8.5 pesos. Every night they'll organise nights out including transport to the clubs. The staff are really accommodating and will go out with you - all great! The rooms get hot (especially the dorm) but its cancun, go to the beach. Loved my stay here, couldn't recommend it more highly.

Hostel Rio Playa, Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Firstly, the staff are really nice and very helpful and the hostel bar would probably be the highlight. That aside, we didn't have a great stay in hostel rio. The bed mattresses are like wire covered in a sheet, the linen doesn't fit the beds so you're often sleeping on the bare bed, the party organiser charged a 200 peso commission on club entry that offered no added value. The wifi didn't work (it looked like this may have been fixed the day we left). Lots of live-ins in our room too, smelly
