Green Hill Hostel, Medellin, Colombia

It's not going to be for everyone - it's not a party hostel but it's very social. Green Hill is a clean, well located hostel in Laureles. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Would stay again.

A great spot and awesome vibe here. Really good facilities too - lockers, concrete bunks that don't make noise and give you privacy, the best shower I've had in two months in Central America and decent wifi too. Pricey but definitely the best place to stay in Bocas.

Hostel Van Gogh, San Jose, Costa Rica

This is a nice hostel with hot water showers, and nice beds. As a one night stopover it was close enough to walk to bus stations and into central to get food. Security seemed ok although there were no lockers available (a larger storage space could be used if you spoke to the staff). My two negatives would be that it's a very quiet hostel, the wifi is slow and the breakfast is a little bit underwhelming (but free so can't complain).

Great stay overall. We had some bad weather (no fault of the hostel obviously - you get rain in rainforests). I was in a dorm for one night and a private room for 2. The hostel was accomodating but realistic about canopy and tours and cloud forest openings, buying food and drink in he bar seemed like it was a chore for the staff but other than that I don't have any complaints. Great stay!

Matiox, Antigua, Guatemala

Yes Matiox is a little less cheap than a lot of hostels in town, and yes it's just a little out of the main part of Antigua town. That said, if you're happy to walk an extra 3 minutes and are interested in a great bed (dare I say tempurpedic?), amazing shower pressure, user friendly and helpful staff and a jacuzzi then you can't look any further.

Couldn't have asked for more. The staff were super relaxed and happy to help with any questions we had. The breakfast spread was really good and the dorms were comfortable.

Had a great stay here. It's really well situated in relation to the peace park and a-bomb dome but it is a bit of a walk to the train and Shinkansen. Had a great stay really polite staff and for a 28 bed dorm you wouldn't know it as it's quite private.

Going to Kyoto? Stay here. I was only in Kyoto for one night but this hostel blew me away. Well situated right near Kyoto Station it's a modern hostel with all of the comforts you could possibly want: comfortable bed, privacy in the bunks, wifi, power etc. great amenities and a kickass cafe right downstairs. These guys have hit the nail on the head. I'll be back.

Space Hostel Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan
8.6
23rd Mar 2016

I had a great stay at Space Hostel. Very clean and comfortable with accomodating staff. My one drawback would be that there wasn't much of an atmosphere (the jazz music in the common room was very relaxing -just not my thing though). If you're in Tokyo to get stuff done quickly it's well located near Iriya and Ueno though and you won't have trouble getting plenty of sleep.

Hostel Quetzal, Cancun, Mexico

Quetzal is amazing!! Stay here. The included meals are awesome and dinner comes with a shot (mandatory). The location is out of the hotel zone, downtown but not an issue, right near the ado or the local bus is 8.5 pesos. Every night they'll organise nights out including transport to the clubs. The staff are really accommodating and will go out with you - all great! The rooms get hot (especially the dorm) but its cancun, go to the beach. Loved my stay here, couldn't recommend it more highly.

Hostel Rio Playa, Playa del Carmen, Mexico
5.4
11th Jul 2013

Firstly, the staff are really nice and very helpful and the hostel bar would probably be the highlight. That aside, we didn't have a great stay in hostel rio. The bed mattresses are like wire covered in a sheet, the linen doesn't fit the beds so you're often sleeping on the bare bed, the party organiser charged a 200 peso commission on club entry that offered no added value. The wifi didn't work (it looked like this may have been fixed the day we left). Lots of live-ins in our room too, smelly
