The Cranky Croc Hostel

Bogota, Colombia

Stayed at this hostel 5 years ago and it is as good as I remember it back then. Staff are all super friendly and helpful. The courtyard promotes a very social atmosphere. Breakfasts are available at very reasonable prices if you don't feel like cooking 1st thing in the morning. Beds are comfortable and have personal reading lights. Lockers are huge with power points inside. Hot showers 24hrs. Good wifi. Great location to explore the city. Highly recommend.

Great hostel that creates a really nice social atmosphere. Rooftop bar is a great place to start your evening or stay in and chill. Kitchen is super equipped and great for cooking. Tried Buddha prior to here and this won hands down for atmosphere. Seems to be a new place and only fault I had was that maintenance needs a little more attention...bathrooms not locking, shower knobs missing etc.

Very nice hostel. Seems to be pretty new. Lacked any activities in the evening. Rooms were clean. Showers were warm. Close to town. Staff friendly. Wifi worked well.

Happy Buddha Boutique Hostel

Very nice hostel in a great location. Always clean and beds comfortable. However some of the staff were not so friendly and it felt as though we were disturbing them. Breakfast varied wildly from being good to terrible. 6 bed dorms were cramped and should really be 4 bed dorms. Bar was ascetically very nice but didn't create a very social atmosphere amongst guests.....not sure why. Maybe due to it being also open to the public and the layout of the tables, people just remained in small groups.

Hostel Masaya Santa Marta

Awesome hostel right in the centre. More like a resort/hotel based on the facilities. Pool in the courtyard and on the roof for cooling off. Bar lacked atmosphere while I was there and closed early but can't fault hostel for that. Beds are comfortable and have curtains, reading lights and power points. Would stay again.

The Dreamer Hostel

Great hostel with very helpful and friendly staff. Some dorms have a/c which is worth the extra $. Pool is great and activities are organised most nights. Breakfast available is well worth it. Safe and secure but a little too far from town if you don't want to spend all your time inside the hostel. Only thing in the area is a large shopping mall.

Vibes Hostel

Excellent hostel. Ideally located in the best part of Quito. Clean and secure. Dorms are spacious and well thought out. Staff are friendly and informative. Always something happening....even had a free pasta night while I was there. Owner Santiago goes the extra mile to create a very social atmosphere and often joins the guests for a few drinks and to party the night away in one of the many local bars.

Hostel itself is great but reception staff (manager) and policies are not. Arrived at 10am and didn't receive a hello/welcome. No information was offered about Mancora, activities or places to eat/drink. Requested bottom bunk as I was feeling ill and reception told me that would be no problem but at checkin (2pm) this was forgotten and there was only a top bunk available. Informed I could change following day when people checked out. Following day I was told there was a fee to change beds.

Pleasantly surprised to find its an Irish owned hostel. Perfect location. Wake up and fall asleep to the sound of waves. Great place to chill/surf for a few days. Clean and secure. Atmosphere makes it all that more special. Every evening people get together at the bar overlooking the ocean for a few drinks and if you are lucky a bit of traditional Irish music.

2nd time to stay. Arrived on St Patricks day and was given a discount for being Irish :) Maps provided are invaluable. Little touches like power pts in the lockers are great. Staff are excellent. All of them are genuinely friendly and helpful. Lucy at reception was awesome and ensured I got my taxi to the bus terminal on time. Hold onto her. Clean. Good location and secure.

Great hostel in La Paz if not the best. As with any hostel it somewhat depends on the other guests and staff at the time. Israelis can use this hostel a lot during certain times of the year! Always a party at the bar so if you want to avoid temptation and have a good night sleep maybe stay somewhere else. Everything you need is inside if you don't have the will to go outside. Menu is extensive and great value. Beds are warm and comfortable. Lockers etc. Full time staff are awesome.

El Curichal Hostel

Rurrenabaque, Bolivia

Stayed here for 3 nights. It was the only place I could find on Hostelworld before travelling but there are lots of places when you arrive. The hostel is not bad and I would stay again. Rated security low only because there are no lockers in the room but the hostel itself is secure. Also rated facilities low because there was never any toilet paper. Communal area is nice and relaxing with plenty of hammocks. Plenty of movies to watch in the evening.

Gringo's Rincon Hostel

Sucre, Bolivia

The hostel is very well run. Very clean. Showers always warm. Kitchen is well equipped. Beds are comfortable. Good location. However downsides incl. - no lockers which we found strange considering everything else is well thought out. Its not possible to bring non guests into the hostel under any circumstances at any time which can be inconvenient if you want to meet friends before going out. The owner can also be very anal and gets annoyed about minor things.

Nice hostel with helpful staff. Good kitchen facilities. The BBQ really was awesome and brought everyone together. Its a little bit of a walk to the main square but that is not a huge issue. Would stay again.

The Ritz by Hostel Inn

Booked 3 nights and stayed 7. As good as it gets at this hostel. All the staff were super friendly with extra mention to Matteo, Nick and the managerial music maestro. Perfect location being on the doorstep of the metro and walking distance to many of the cities attractions. Very clean. Great breakfast. Flexible. Evening entertainment an added bonus with a Jazz and Tango band playing during my stay. Wifi excellent. 2nd time in BA and 1st time at this hostel. will stay again. Thank you.

PataPata Hostel

Valparaiso, Chile

Very nice hostel and well located. Clean and the best DVD collection I have seen if you want to chill out. Staff were really friendly and helpful. However they were a bit too strict with external guests visiting before going out on the town and the breakfast was nice but limited to one sandwich and some sliced fruit. Also it got very cold in the hostel...both the common area and the Dorm. Staff were reluctant to turn the heating on in both. Blankets required!!

Milhouse Hipo

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Stayed 3-4 weeks. Not healthy but lot of fun. Very clean/comfortable. Kitchen could be larger considering number of guests. Staff on the reception were amazing with special mention to Mel & Pame. Bit frustrating that nights alternate between this hostel and sister hostel Av because the bar is not always open. Only significant complaint is the bar(s). Cashier system is retarded & always causes a bottle neck @ a hostel!! Av bar staff are worst encountered in 7month travel - arrogant & unfriendly.

Unplugged Hostel Suites Centro

Montevideo, Uruguay

Stayed for 4 nights in what seemed to be the low season. Only 2 other guests but was the same in other hostels. Good location being close to the bus station but not in the old town where the bars are located. Staff really friendly and experienced a great daytime BBQ while I was there. 1st hostel to have large feather duvets - difficult to get out of bed. Great breakfast. Would stay again.

The Hostel-Inn Iguazu Falls

Puerto Iguazu, Argentina

Stayed 4 nights. Nice hostel and probably a great place to stay during the summer/hot months. However when it is cold facilities such as the pool and large open common areas are useless. Staff were helpful but lacked info for the Itaipu Dam. Pillows and mattress showed signs of mould. Hostel is outside town with nothing close by. Bus/taxi needed to eat or shop in town.
