House Backpacker's

Hoi An, Vietnam

Nice little hostel just outside of old town. Rooms are clean and comfy. Family who runs it is really nice, especially Winnie who went out of her way to track down shorts that the laundry ladies had lost along with organizing tours at a great price. No common area but great place to stay if traveling with others.

They really do deserve their rating! Staff are the nicest with the sweetest girls at the front who all know your name. Rooms are tidied up daily. Delicious free breakfast. Big lockers under each bed. About a 10 minute walk to the beach. Definitely worth a visit if you're in town to see how all hostels should be run.

Mui Ne Hills Budget Hotel

A little ways away from the center of town but very nice rooms for a good price. Most people here just stayed at the pool all day and went to the sand dunes as a tour since not much around to walk to. There are however, some smaller family owned shops nearby to get a good cheap meal. Overall nice place to just relax.

Bad experience. Location good, rooms were clean and free breakfast nice. Keys for lockers didn't work. 2nd night, locked out of the hostel with umbrella in the door with no one to let us in. 1st morning tried to pay for both nights to get our passports. Switched rooms second night, tried to get key, told to pay again. Staff phoned girl who took payment, said we paid less and was extremely rude. forced to pay extra since didn't believe we paid more and "didn't ask for receipt". Wouldn't go back!

A bit out of the way from the center of town but it seems like people here tend to stay in anyways. although you can rent a motor bike for $7 if you leave your passport. Basically a party hostel so easy to meet people but not too quiet at night. Very clean rooms with large lockers under each bed. Food and drinks not the cheapest though if you plan on staying in. Also all their tours are quite expensive. Overall, nice place and excellent if you want the atmosphere.

Encounters Hostel and Guest House

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Hostel is run extremely well. Rooms are simple but clean and comfy. Each bed has it's own fan and mosquito net and everyone is given a secure locker. Also has a bar with cheap drinks and good food. About a 10 min walk to waterfront. Can book all bus tickets and tours and get your visa for Vietnam at the hostel. Owners of the hostel are extremely friendly and good to chat with about anything from places to visit in Cambodia to where to eat good food. Would highly recommend.

Arboretum Guesthouse

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Mixed feelings. On the plus side, closest you'll get to Angkor Wat (15 min bike) which is extremely beneficial if you plan on renting a bike to see all the main temples (doable regardless of what tuk tuk drivers will say). Also bikes are free! (Just make sure to pick a good one). Be warned, if arriving at night, seems sketchy as it's in a remote area and taxis don't know where it is. Lacked atmosphere but the rooms were clean, staff were helpful and good value for money. Overall met our needs.

Best part of hostel was the extremely friendly and helpful staff. Found and booked tours for us (actually looked into different options to find ones that matched what we wanted at a decent price). Great location, right in old town within walking distance to most sights. Given a map and shown places to visit. Free pool table and movies on big screen (on demand with 100s of movies). Rooms clean and great price. Would highly recommend!

Good location in walking distance to most of the many sights. Staff are very friendly and extremely helpful in letting you know where to go, suggestions for where to eat and even what to eat. Our room had a bit of a strange smell to it although it appeared clean, which remained the entire time. Everything else about the hostel was great!

De'Native Guest House

De'Native guesthouse was our favorite hostel so far! The owner Krish was amazing. He took us on a hike, cooked us amazing Indian food for dinner one night and arranged a tour of Cameron Highlands for us. He has a wealth of knowledge and can help arrange travel to your next destination. The outdoor hut we stayed in was lovely, and the whole property has been kept up beautifully. Also not far from the downtown area. We would highly recommend this place for exceptional staff and nice rooms!

Nice location by Chinatown and easy walk from MRT. Secure building with lockers. Rooms were small with very thin walls so if you're a light sleeper, it may be difficult to sleep if it's loud. Also there were no windows so it made it difficult to wake up in the morning. Overall, decent place if you just want a cheap place in a good location.

Hostel Enjoy

Sarajevo, Bosnia And Herzegovina
60%

Finding the hostel was extremely difficult as the instructions are next to impossible to follow. The building doesn't even have a sign and the only indication the hostel is there is the word 'enjoy' in the buzzer list. When we got there, no answer and we had to wait 20 minutes before the buzzer was finally answered. I was charged full price even though I paid the deposit and when I brought it up I was rudely told I was being offensive. DON'T do the war tunnel tour, it's way overpriced!!!

There were ants all over the floor and when it rained the water dripped through the roof. Seems more like a bed and breakfast than a hostel and there is practically no common area. Also the bread served with breakfast was all moldy. the place itself is a really nice building though with tons of room.

Stephan is an awesome guy to run the hostel. Very friendly and welcoming, and a great guy to hang out with. Breakfasts here are really good as well. Especially Stephans fruit salad. The amazing thing about the hostel is the location, right on the middle of the old town. Only negative is the few bathrooms that are only on the first floor but overall an awesome place.

Beds weren't made until late at night. Lockers were terrible, half had already been previously ripped open. Door keys were useless since people were climbing in through the windows. Door was broken and hard to open. Shower door didn't lock. Double booked people in the beds in my room. Basically a sketchy place with a lot of guys who are loud all night.

Great location and really nice rooms. I'd assume it used to be an old hotel so the security with key cards is great and the bathrooms are really nice.
