Best thing about this hostel is the quiet hours from 10P to 8A. A few of us were sitting in the public picnic table area and were shooed off to bed at 10PM. Much appreciated! Reasonable beds (some old, some new with plastic) Shortage of bathrooms could be lived with cuz of main house bathroom (often free). Free coffee good, gotta take shoes off before entering kitchen, no blinds/curtains on the room windows, no door locks, mixed dorms, NO microwave (really?). And cans of free bug spray!
Friendly, helpful staff. Matt and the guy from Brazil were awesome. The sink in my room had not been cleaned for weeks and shower was not cleaned in 4 days. Strangely, the halls were swept daily. No air conditioner, inside rooms will be hotter than mine which had a ridiculously hard-to-open window which could not be locked for security. To its credit, Buckner is possibly the QUIETEST hostel I've ever stayed in. Just a small bench near reception prevents that area from being a noisy 'hang-out'.
Loved the staff, especially Bela -- very warm and helpful! Roof top pool and view very cool. Sometimes a band in the common area. They did their best and accomodated us for a couple unscheduled nights. I looked at other hostels but would happily return here!
