DownTown Hostel Yerevan

Yerevan, Armenia

Nice, clean hostel right in the centre of Yerevan. Staff were excellent - they sorted us out with everything we could ask for and even did a 4am breakfast for us when we had a flight to catch. However, the beds were about the least comfortable I've ever slept in (awkward springs sticking into my back) and the showers desperately need curtains because otherwise the whole room gets soaked. Overall I'd recommend this, and it's only a couple of changes away from being absolutely perfect.

Tbilisi Friends Hostel

Tbilisi, Georgia

Good cheap hostel in an excellent location. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Bathrooms are pretty much impossible to keep clean/dry. We chose this partly because of the "party hostel" tag but there wasn't really anything going on while we were there (I guess it just depends on the other guests) - on the bright side that meant that it was easy to sleep!

America del Sur Hostel

El Calafate, Argentina

Had an excellent time here. The staff were amazing, very helpful, organized several tours for us which were all great, they went above and beyond (e.g. did an extra-early breakfast when we had a 5am start) and they all seemed to know who we were - impressive in such a big hostel! Easy 5-10 minute walk from town centre. Would definitely stay here again.

Hi Patagonia Hostel Puerto Madryn

Puerto Madryn, Argentina

This is possibly my favourite hostel I have ever stayed at! The staff are fantastic- could not have done more to help us arrange our tours etc and felt like old friends after just a 3-day stay. We stayed in the double en-suite which was good and spotlessly clean. Bar was very cheap, friendly and good in a beautiful garden. The asado (grill) night was amazing! Gracias Gaston, we were so sad to leave!

City Hostel Prizren

Prizren, Kosovo

This is the only hostel in Prizren but there's no need for any others because it's excellent - it's right in the centre of town, it's clean and comfortable and the owner (Galdim) did everything to make sure we had a good stay, including helping us with complicated onward travel arrangements and taking us out for beers at one of Prizren's more unusual (and difficult to find) bars!

Hostel Riad Marrakech Rouge

Marrakech, Morocco

Had a great time - 4 of us stayed in the double ensuite rooms for 5 days. Staff were fantastic and the hostel was a perfect haven in the hustle of central Marrakech - the roof terrace and indoor lounge were wonderful spaces for relaxing. Breakfast was one of the best I've had at hostels. Downsides were that the enclosed nature meant our rooms were permanently damp from the ensuites and we could hear everything going on, particularly the doorbell through the night. Would recommend it!

Villa Jezerka

Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

Had a lovely 2 day stay at Villa Jezerka, and some wonderful walks around the lakes. The owners were extremely welcoming and our room was great - especially after we got home from a very cold and wet walk! My only criticism might be that we found it a bit tricky to find, coming by car - some clarified directions and/or a map would help that.

Zeppelin Hostel

Ljubljana, Slovenia

We stayed 3 nights in the double ensuite room. Had a lovely time in Ljubljana but weren't utterly enamoured with the hostel - our ensuite was basically unfinished - the shower screen was still in its box and there was no shower head holder, so showering was a complicated experience that resulted in soaking the entire bathroom. Room was fine - neither particularly good nor bad value for money and staff were helpful whenever we asked for anything.

Krakow, Poland

Ideal base for exploring Krakow, staff were very friendly and extremely helpful! Bedding was a bit tired but everything was spotlessly clean. There's no breakfast at the Globtroter but there's a place across the square that they will recommend that's really good value (cooked breakfasts are better than the buffet).
