vaishnavi is a very large hotel with dozens of rooms, and so can seem impersonal (it is not a small guesthouse like you might be used to from India) and almost none of the rooms have windows. the rooms are big and clean enough, and the location near the train station (5 minute walk or 5rupees rickshaw) is convenient. the rooftop restaurant is convenient and always full of people, but not super cheap.
I was actually placed in a neighbouring (partner) hotel, the New King. it was clean, basic, with warm water and wifi. hidden down a very narrow alleyway in the paharganj area, it was a little tricky to find at first but ok thereafter. very busy nearby, and noisy at night. no external facing windows. staff rude and abrupt, but easy to ignore. I would consider staying again, it is cheap!
clean, dormitory accommodation. a bit chaotically run, and not all that close to the beach, but a good option for a stopover before or after the airport.
good hostel which gets a friendly crowd of international tourists. facilities are basic but the complementary (basic) breakfast and reasonably priced home cooked lunches and dinners are a bonus. the staff are extremely friendly but insanely disorganized... booking systems/invoices/official records are rarely more than a handwritten sheet or scrap of paper torn from the corner of a book. expect to have to move multiple times if you stay longer than 1 night.
excellent, welcoming staff and a great location. I would not hesitate to stay here again on a Singapore stopover.
