Riverside Hostel Gdansk

Gdansk, Poland

Pros: Very good location, easy to find from main train station, and central location within the Old Town area. Facilities were also pretty good, and the provided breakfast was better than most Hostel's provide. Cons: Lockers were broken in main dorm. The door to the main dorm was never locked, anybody could walk in to the hostel off the street and into the dorm room without much hindrance. Some staff were very helpful but others very disinterested. No atmosphere.

Decent hostel, terrible location. The beds are quite dodgy, especially if you are on the top bunk. Still better than most other hostels in London though.

High Street Hostel

Edinburgh, Scotland

Great location, good hostel but not really a true backpackers hostel, most of the people staying there were living at the hostel/looking for work. Facilities were good, but it is a massive hostel so it can be hard at time to get access to the kitchen. Would not stay here again as there are better hostels in Edinburgh

Good hostel, great location, but a bit lifeless! Feels more like a motel than a hostel. Regardless, the facilities were great and I would most likely stay there again if I return to Inverness.

Pretty average hostel, there was no ladders for the bunks in the dorms so getting up and down was a bit of a challenge (pretty standard concept to have ladders for bunks). In addition when I was staying there the male bathrooms were out of order, every day a new toilet would be broken and the showers were terrible. The bathrooms looked like those in a nightclub at the end of a saturday night.... No hostel atmosphere, the only reason to stay here would be if it was cheaper than the other options

Hotel Stand'Inn

Luxembourg City, Luxembourg
69%

More of a motel than a hotel, in addition it is not actually located in Luxembourg city but in a small town about 20 minutes outside which is a little bit difficult to get to. In reality it is a place that you should only stay at if you have a car. The place itself was pretty decent, good rooms and clean, nothing to complain except that they are a bit deceitful regarding the location. There is a good supermarket next door which was quite convenient.

Hotel Bronckhorst

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Great place to stay when in Amsterdam, stayed in a twinshare room and it ended up being cheaper than what a dorm would cost in a hostel in the city. Great value for money, rooms are good for what you pay, and whilst not being right in the centre of the city, it is still very close and remains easy to get anywhere from the hotel. Would readily stay there next time I am in Amsterdam!

Great hostel, great location, great staff! The owner is really friendly and happy to talk, only stayed there 1 night but was offered a free coffee on arrival and then free beer later on. Would recommend this hostel to any travellers going to Kosovo!

Hostel Miturno

Mostar, Bosnia And Herzegovina

Only an average hostel, great location and the staff are friendly and helpful but there are better hostels in Mostar that are better value for money. Common room was only average and did not feel at all like a hostel. Then again still a decent hostel and probably better than most places.

Great hostel, definitely one of the best I have stayed in. Gordana is a great host and makes you feel welcome from the moment you get there, and has great tips on where to go while you stay in Pula. Bit hard to find the place and a fairly long walk from the bus station if you have heavy luggage, but everything else is great. Close to the forum and close to the centre of town and the place is great place to meet fellow travellers. Would definitely stay here whenever I'm next in Pula!

Vila Veselova

Ljubljana, Slovenia

Great hostel, definitely one of the best i've stayed in. Location is good, about a 5-10 min walk to old town and close to a supermarket. Has good kitchen facilities and a decent breakfast. The rooms were great, each bed has a powerpoint next to it so you can charge your phone while you sleep which is often a rarity in hostels. Good value for money and has a great atmosphere and common areas, good place to stay if your travelling solo. Will definitely stay here when I return to Ljubljana!

Thanks for the compliments about powerpointers - we know they are handy, although guests often do not even notice them. And you are more than welcome back!

Vienna City Hostel

Vienna, Austria
60%

Good hostel but not a good place for young backpackers. Was full of teenagers and families and there was no real character or atmosphere to the place. Good location, good wifi, decent breakfast. Bit too expensive for what was offered, can easily find cheaper hostels with better facilities and better atmosphere elsewhere in Vienna. The fact that the hostel is massive but always the last place in Vienna to fill up should be an indication of its value for money. Needs a communal kitchen as well.

Good hostel but the location is not the greatest for tourists. If you are more interested in a good nights sleep or are not a tourist than it would be a better fit. The worst part about the location is the lack of places to eat around the hostel (the few places there are shut at from 9 to 11pm and the hostel bar itself shuts at 11pm and there is no communal kitchen to prepare your own food. The hostel though is one of the cheapest you'll find in London and for its price the place is decent

Pretty good hostel for the price, good location and good facilties. Only problem is that there is no common room and the bar downstairs gets filled with locals, most of whom are fine, apart from the one or two drunks who seem to live there. Still a good place though. Very well maintained, doesn't have a good hostel culture so its a bit harder to meet fellow backpackers than it would be if they added in a common room.

Sleep in Heaven

Copenhagen, Denmark
71%

Good hostel with great communal areas but the rooms could have been cleaner (though perhaps that is just the people I was sharing a room with). The location isn't the greatest though, bit far from the city centre, it is walkable from the main train station but still a good 20 to 25 minutes walk. Still one of the cheapest by Copenhagen standards and the location is better than most of the other options. All in all, it is good value by Copenhagen standards (definitely not a cheap city to stay in)

St Christopher's Berlin

Berlin, Germany

Good place to stay although it lacked a communal kitchen and the only communal areas are down in the main bar which fills up pretty quick and is always pretty busy. Great breakfast, great beds (each bed has a curtain to surround it and give you privacy and also has a power socket to charge your phone while you sleep which was great). The sheer size of the place and the structure of the dorms makes it hard to meet other travellers though. Internet access is expensive and wifi extends only to bar

Let's Rock Hostel

Krakow, Poland

Definitely one of the best hostels I've stayed in! Good rooms and beds that are maintained well, good communal kitchen (little bit small though), good wifi and free internet connection, free tea and coffee and a great communal area that makes it easy to meet other backpackers. Good atmosphere and great location. Right in the middle of the city and only a few minutes walk to the main square. Great place, great city, will definitely stay here again if I come again to Krakow!

Safestay York

York, England

Felt more like a hotel than a hostel, definitely not the place to go if you want to meet other travellers or to party but a great place if you are looking for a good nights sleep and want to avoid the scummy backpackers. Great rooms, good beds and overall was a good place to stay. Good value for money as well, definitely felt like I was in luxury whilst I was there, compared to most hostels. Quite central as well, so easy to walk to any where. Would stay there again if I went back to York.

Caledonian Backpackers

Edinburgh, Scotland

Good hostel but had a few drawbacks. I stayed in one of the larger dorms which would've been fine except that all the blinds were broken so the sunlight flooded into the room early in the morning making it difficult to sleep in and there were not enough power sockets in the room. Furthermore there were no bathrooms in the larger dorms (which had 20-30 people in it if not even more). Each floor had only one male and one female bathroom to cater for a whole floor of 5 or 6 dorms!!

Great hostel, would definitely return the next time I was in Edinburgh. Great location, great bar downstairs and the rooms were great as well. I stayed in a larger dorm which was great, I could not hear any of the noise coming from the bar and the bathrooms/showering facilities were great as well. Great place to stay regardless of whether you want a good nights sleep or to stay up all night partying!

Bunkhouse

Cardiff, Wales
83%

Great location, only a few minutes walk to Cardiff Castle, pretty central location. Close to a lot of bars and restaurants etc. The room I stayed in was one of the larger dorms which was ok except for the fact it fronted onto the main street resulting in having to put up with quite a lot of noise (I only stayed midweek so I imagine it'd be even worse on the wkd). The bathrooms were not entirely adequate as well as there was no privacy in the showers, just a multitude in the one room.

Rock N Bowl Hostel

Bristol, England

Very good hostel, very large common rooms and situated in a very good location. Would definitely stay at this hostel again the next time I'm in Bristol. Only criticism is the lack of power sockets in the rooms, and many of the sockets in the common rooms didn't work as well, which made it difficult to charge my phone. Otherwise it was good value for money, the rooms are far enough away from the common rooms as well that noise does not become a nuisance at all.
