Heart of Gold Hostel

The staff at this hostel are incredible. Peter deserves a special shout out because he makes a point of learning everyone's names and he is just so welcoming. They are all very helpful and welcoming. The hostel is located fairly close to the Friedrichstra├če station which is just one stop from the main train station. It is close to plenty of fun funky restaurants. The hostel is well kept and the only complaint I have is that there is no wifi in the bedrooms but it is available in the common area.

The four floor walk up is kind of a pain but the location is close to downtown so that is nice. The fully equipped kitchen and proximity to a grocery store is also a plus.

Luxembourg City Hostel

Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

Luxembourg is a gorgeous city but that's because it's in a valley. Hauling your suitcase up and down the paths is brutal but it's well worth it to experience this awesome spot. The hostel is fairly far from the train station but once you're there, it's easy enough to get to the central part of town. The hostel is big and clean and I met some wonderful people there. I do recommend it if you don't mind the walk.

Hostel Utopia

The lobby of this hostel is an Amsterdam "coffee shop" so if that's not your thing, beware. The beds were clean and comfy but the toilet/shower was awful. Very small, and not clean. The stairs are also scary to climb. Weekends in Amsterdam are crazy expensive and it really doesn't feel like it's worth it but there wasn't much else available in the city so it worked. The location is good. A few blocks from Dam Square and from the Anne Frank House on a really quiet street.

The advertised "free bagels" never appeared although the breakfast that was provided (cereal, toast, coffee and orange juice) was more than adequate. It was definitely nice to start the day with breakfast and not have to pay for it separately. The room was HOT. Nice, if you're prepared for it but it was February and I had fleece pyjamas so I boiled. Also there was only on plug in the whole six bedroom dorm. That was crazy. A power bar would make a lot of sense. Location was just okay.
