More of a guesthouse than hostel. Beds very soft and comfortable. The owner was very friendly and accomodating. Allowed us to continue to use the facillities after checkout. Bathroom clean and spacious with good pressure and water temperature. Breakfast adequate. Location slightly outside of the centre, but a manageable walk away. Hostel located up a gradual hill which makes cycling home difficult. Very chilled and cosy vibe in the common areas which made it easy to meet people. Refreshing.

Stayed in a private room with my partner and they were very comfortable. I made a mistake in the booking and chose a twin instead of a double room. The staff were helpful in swapping us to a double room. The rooms overlooking the nearby square had a remarkable view. The common areas were cool and had a social vibe. The free breakfast was great, including eggs, cereal, juice and coffee. Would definitely recommend this hostel.

Joanna was a kind and excellent host. Gave great recommendations for activities in Porto, which made our time there more enjoyable. She is an excellent cook, and the dinners on offer looked restaurant quality. We stayed in the private room as a couple and it was very comfortable and spacious. Common areas had a great relaxed vibe. The free breakfast was slightly disappointing though, and was mainly bread and reconstituted juice. Would highly recommend this hostel.

This is a new hostel. Was still partly under renovation when I was there. Staff/owners super friendly and helpful. Good computers in lobby and wifi in rooms. Excellent showers and bathrooms that were better than most hotels. Extremely soft and comfy beds (best I've ever experienced in a hostel). Only critique of this hostel was that it lacked atmosphere, but this was because few people were staying there because it was new. If you want a quieter luxurious experience, stay here.

Tiger Tim's Place Privates, Budapest, Hungary

6th Oct 2013

Stayed here in a private room to recover after two weeks of partying in another hostel in Budapest. The room was in a separate apartment about 5min from the main hostel. It had three ensuite bedrooms with a communal kitchen that was adequately stocked. The apartment was very quiet. The accomodation served its purpose for us, but I would not recommend the private rooms if you hope to meet people. We also thought there was something about Tim that was a little bit off.

Located about 10-15min out of town. Crowd at the hostel very average. Mostly Contiki-tour types. Common areas were reasonably full most of the time though. Free dinners nothing to write home about (mostly pasta and other carbs). Rooms very noisy, drunk Aussies running up and down stairs interrupted sleep. We had to change rooms. My friend has his wallet stolen - turned up later with cash gone. Staff very understanding in changing a booking when my travel companion suffered food poisoning though.

Dink's Place Hostel, Hvar, Croatia
10.0
16th Sep 2013

Best hostel so far in our three month trip. Dink was great. Very informative and would hang out with guests. He organised a pub crawl and booze cruise. Great social atmosphere and very easy to meet people. By the end of our stay literally the whole hostel hung out together. Around 25 of us all went down to the beach at night with music and drinks during full moon. We also chartered a private boat with 9 other guests we met at the hostel. Small enough to be intimate but big enough to be fun.

Als Place Hostel, Split, Croatia

Al very friendly. Took us out for coffee and a chat. Apparently this was the first hostel in Split so he knows the town well. My main criticism is that there were no locks on the dorm rooms, and there weren't any lockers in the rooms either. I would like either of these for the piece of mind. Not a 'party hostel' but relaxed vibe makes it easy to meet people. Across the road from a popular backpacker bar too which was great. Tap Al's brain to get his excellent advice on things to do in the city.

The Wallaby House Hostel, Zagreb, Croatia

Stayed here as an overnight between buses because it is close to the Central Bus Station (Autobusni Kolodvo). It is about a 10-15 minute walk. The directions they give are easy to follow. The staff were very friendly and informative, even though we were arriving at 11pm and were leaving early the next day. Were a few people in the common room at that time, but was otherwise pretty quiet.

A large, impersonal, corporate hostel. Terrible atmosphere. Half the hostel filled by 16 year old school groups - there were at least 50 school kids running around the corridors. Some stood akwardly in the bar all night. This completely killed the vibe. Also plenty of Busabout (and similar) travellers from Australia and UK. Bar never filled up. Very difficult to meet people. Wifi incredibly annoying as you must re-logon with the password every time you open the browser. Would not recommend.

Very big corporate hostel. Well equipped with all of the facilities you need in a hostel. Staff were friendly and gave good advice. The bar never really filled up, and was a bit impersonal and awkward. This hostel is fine, but I wouldn't recommend for solo travellers.

Stayed here for one night as a stopover between trains. This hostel is only a one minute walk from Berlin Hbf. I would recommend this hostel for that purpose. Only criticism is that the key card system was not functioning the night of our stay. We had to wait 30minutes for staff to manually let us into our room. Seemed like there was a decent amount of people socialising in the lobby/bar but we didn't join them as we were crashing after a long day of travel.

Thank you very much for your review!! We are glad that you enjoyed your stopover in our Hostel. Unfortunately we have had some technical problems the night you arrived. For that reason our key card system was out of order. We are very sorry for the long waiting time you have had. We would be happy to see you one day again in one of our MEININGER Hostels ;-) Greetings from Berlin.

Half hotel half hostel. Poor security as there are no lockers in rooms. No atmosphere in this hostel - didn't meet anyone in my time staying here. More expensive than other hostels in Stockholm. Staff friendly enough. No wifi in the second boat which we stayed in (very annoying!) Would not recommend this hostel - especially for solo travellers.

This is more of a hotel than a hostel. Far too big and corporate. Barely met anyone in the hostel. Bar was too expensive. At check-in time there were consistently queues of 15-20 people. Would not recommend this hostel.

Great atmosphere for meeting people. By the end of our five night stay here we had a crew of around 15 people who we went out with every night. Big enough to be fun but small enough that it isn't too commercial. Had a lot of fun here. My only criticism is the security - there is only one key to the room. This means the door cannot be locked at night if another room mate is out. This happened to some girls staying next door to us and their $3000 DSLR camera was stolen while they slept!
