Margouya Patagonia

Puerto Varas, Chile

Pierre and family are wonderful hosts. The house is a heritage site in fabulous shape.

Hostal El Refugio

Pucon, Chile

Friendly place, although the cozy common area can get a bit cramped if there are many guests. Plenty to do in Pucón but mostly weather dependent.

Casa Verde Limon

Valparaiso, Chile

Really cool, fits in with the whole Valpo theme. Definitely would recommend.

La Posada del Sol

Samaipata, Bolivia

Best place to stay in Samaipata - the innkeepers are wonderful and food even better!

Loki Backpackers La Paz

La Paz, Bolivia

Cheap place and a good time, but with odd cleaning hours for cleaning rooms (7.30AM) in a dorm.

Landay Hostel

Santiago, Chile

Wonderful, clean, well-run, and super-fast WiFi. Great lodging for several days in Santiago.

I stayed here between several treks over two weeks and everything thing is run professionally at this family-owned guesthouse run by Zahir and his father, who make you feel at home. Zahir helpfully gives the intel on bookings and what scams to avoid in Leh.

Krishna Palace

Jaipur, India

Very friendly family and an absolutely beautiful, old home. Great views from the terrace.

Basic rooms but a friendly family to help out in whatever you might need.

Hotel Ganesha

Varanasi, India

Nice place in chaotic Varanasi. The hotel advertises that WiFi is available in all rooms but was only working in the downstairs lobby at the time of my visit. Western breakfast options are limited but are available at a nearby hotel.

Pushpa Guest House

Pokhara, Nepal

A truly wonderful experience. Raj and his family treated me very well in my extended stay at Pushpa and bent over backwards to help in bookings and teaching the ins and outs of Pokhara. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in town. The singles are spacious - plenty of room to sprawl. Ask for the corner room on the upper floor - nice views as you step out at the door.

Jrome Guest House In Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Teddy is a wonderful host for your stay in Addis and goes out of his way to make you feel at home. Situated near the airport (taxi from the airport should cost 70-80 Birr), this guest house is a wonderful location for short stopovers in Addis or early morning flights. Reaching the Piazza is easy and within a 30-minute ride on public transport (quicker via taxi). The rooms are basic and clean, with breakfast included - a set menu, and different everyday. The WiFi is free and fast.

Pension Idube Budget B&B and Backpackers

Johannesburg, South Africa

Great place to stay. Aubrey (the innkeeper) does a brilliant job in welcoming you to his home. I spent three nights and had the place almost to myself, though wish there had been others. Only two improvements needed: 1. Heater for rooms - I had a room with exterior door. During the recent colds snap it would have been fantastic to have had a heater. 2. WiFi - Signal was only strong near the Aubrey's quarters. Suggest to install a repeater to enhance WiFi reception throughout property.

Hi Matt Thanks so much for the review! And I'm glad you enjoyed the stay. We've been busy with improvements since 1 October 2011 and we've finally moved the wi-fi router to the middle of the house so that all of our rooms now have great signal. Unfortunately there were dependencies here, having to rely on suppliers to move ADSL lines etc., but it has been done. I can only apologise for this, and hope you weren't too inconvenienced. We do have heaters in all the rooms - they are normally stored in the cupboards. But I do hope the electric blankets on the bed kept you warm, along with the extra blankets we have in our rooms. Best regards, Aubrey

Tallinn, Estonia

Just did an overnight trip to Tallinn, but this place was fantastic - helpful, friendly staff and amazingly clean bathroom. Hope to return someday.
