Ivorytowers backpacker lodge

Fox Glacier, New Zealand

One of the best hostels I've been in - excellent facilities, spacious rooms, and a very well equipped and organised kitchen. I instantly felt cosy and at home. Loved the music playing over the speakers! Only thing needed is some lockers for small valuables, either in the rooms or the hallway

Mountain Jade Backpackers

Hokitika, New Zealand

Pretty decent hostel, friendly staff and a great lounge room. Bunk beds were a bit squeaky and the rooms could do with some small lockers but otherwise a good place to stay

Happy Inn Lodge

Interlaken, Switzerland

Mattresses were very thin and the toilets need hand soap, but apart from that a great location (5 minutes walk from Interlaken West station) and pretty good place to stay overall. Above a busy, popular restaurant/bar so can be loud in the evenings, but it's not bad, and is dead quiet after it closes. It was an unusual system having the bar as the reception, and having to leave the key with them whenever you leave for the day, but staff were very nice and helpful regardless.

Isaacs Hostel

Dublin, Ireland

Very cool hostel, just wish I had more time to spend there and enjoy the atmosphere. An awesome friendly vibe from the second you walk in the door, everyone was hanging out by the fire and chatting easily. Staff are excellent and are great to have a laugh with. Will definitely try to come back!

On the other side of the city from the bus and train stations so be prepared to bus there if you don't have a car. Toilets could do with some hand soap, there were no lockers in the rooms and wifi didn't work in all the rooms (worked fine in the common areas though). Apart from that there was lots of space, the building and surroundings are cool and the 15min walk into the city was nice and easy. A pretty relaxing place to stay.

Belfast International Youth Hostel

Belfast, Northern Ireland

Ten minutes walk from the bus and train stations but not right in the city centre so nice and quiet - and still an easy 15minute walk to see the sights in the centre anyway. Only two lockers in a four bed dorm. Facilities were great though. Quality place to stay.

Inverness Student Hostel

Inverness, Scotland

Only stayed one night but felt really welcomed by the awesome staff who love a chat. Everything was cleaned well and everything you need is there given the relatively small size of the building. The lounge/common areas were great, loads of comfy seats and cool decorations, even fresh flowers! Felt at home, definitely recommend :)

Broadford Backpackers Hostel

Isle of Skye, Scotland

Lovely welcoming hostel with cosy rooms and really good facilities (e.g. very well equipped kitchen, separate showers etc). I loved the bright colours and the beds all had comfy mattress toppers. Receptionist was awesome, and the hostel was easy to find, even when arriving in horrible weather! Could do with some more local maps/pamphlets/bus timetables, but otherwise everything was great!

YHA Cambridge

Cambridge, England

I loved this hostel and will definitely stay at more YHAs in the future. 5 minute walk to the train station but a 15-20 minute walk to the city centre. Easy to get to though once you know where it is. Everything was really clean and well kept. The amount of facilities was excellent - i.e. massive self catering kitchen, lounge, luggage storage etc. There is bar&cafe attached with a delicious £5 buffet breakfast. Staff were beyond excellent!! Wifi is £5 for 24 hours though - way too much

Bath Backpackers

Bath, England

Fantastic location, only two minutes walk to the city centre and 5 minutes to the train station. I stayed in a great room with really friendly long termers and it was very clean, tidy and secure. The bathrooms and showers were down in the basement so a bit of a walk but they were excellent. When paying by card there are fees charged and there is also a £5 key deposit so try to have cash. I really appreciated the luggage storage and the laid back vibe.

Cardiff, Wales

A nice place, great location and beautifully decorated bar area. The bedrooms in contrast actually seemed like an afterthought however - nothing but the 3 high bunks. Comfy and clean but can be noisy on Saturday nights when people get back from clubbing. Loved the cinema area downstairs, such a good idea! Breakfast was OK but some brown bread would be a welcome addition.

Hootananny Hostel

London, England

I loved staying at the Hoot - this is a great hostel!! I was there for 3 weeks and had planned to stay longer but found a flat. There are heaps of cool long-term people living here which gives the Hoot it's fantastic chilled out, down to earth, one-big-family feel. I felt very safe here and in the Brixton area despite it's reputation (very impt for me as a single female). Scrubbed sparking clean every day; plentiful free breakfast; free dinner on Fridays; great people; what more could you want?!
