Copenhagen Downtown Hostel

Copenhagen, Denmark

Clean and in a good location with the best happy hour prices in town, laundry facilities, a kitchen, and plenty of bathrooms/showers with hot water. If you stay on the first floor you'll be able to pick up the WIFI for free and every bed has it's own light and electric outlets. You can't ask for much more in a hostel.

Backpackers Göteborg

Gothenburg, Sweden

Nice and clean hostel in a good location with comfortable beds, lots of showers/bathrooms, a kitchen, free wifi, and lockable storage spaces. There isn't much character or atmosphere here but you shouldn't be spending much time in the hostel anyway ;)

The Old Countryhouse

Christchurch, New Zealand

The place is clean and the kitchen is nice, but its far out of town and expensive for a hostel dorm. You get 50MB of free wifi each day, but you have to ask the desk to reset the modem every hour.

Dear David, Great to hear that you did enjoy your stay with us. Thank you for bringing the modem reset to our attention. We have just spent $1000 on a booster antenna for our WiFi and going by yours (and others) feedback, there seems to be still a problem with connectivity. Travelling often ourselves, we do appreciate the importance of being able to connect regularly and the annoyance when this is not possible easily. We are onto investigating this further and should have this issue resolved shortly. We are sorry that you found it too far to walk to town. We have always regarded our location as pretty handy with the supermarkets, butcher, subway and other take away shops just across the road from us. Additionally, there are two great cafes, two great pubs and various restaurants within a 10 to 15 minute walk. We have always enjoyed the 20 minute walk into the city centre or 25 minutes to the Botanical Garden but there is always the option to take the bus from the bus stop across the road.

Base Wellington

Wellington, New Zealand

Hostel is loud almost every night of the week because the kiwi experience kids stay here. the kitchen is a disaster and the because the backpackers are so young, most of them are annoying. while i liked the other base hostels around NZ, this one sucks. do yourself a favor and stay at nomads or yha in wellington, and if you want to party, there are plenty of great bars around.

Movie night, free bbq night, poker night, and the pub crawl nights were fun. Many backpackers staying here clean for 2 hours a day to earn free nights, so its spotless for a hostel. Staying on a weekly rate of $140 only saves you $1/day over the online rate, and you stay in a room with other long termers who are working locally. All in all, a clean spot in a good location at a good price. Would definitely change the policy of not allowing weekly rates to be extended a few additional days.

They've got a kitchen, video games, tv, and a good vibe at the place. The rooms could REALLY use more fans or AC though. When its hot out, its HOT in the rooms. The guy running the joint is a legend. He'll give you advice on anything from fixing your car, to getting you discounts at other hostels if you show up and he's full.

Frendz Resort Boracay

Boracay Island, Philippines

Close to the beach with a great staff and common area for meeting people. The dorms are basic but clean. Its tough paying $10 for a dorm bed in SE Asia but Boracay is expensive and the vibe is worth it. The only thing Id change if I were them is their food and mixed drink prices. Compared to whats around, they are overpriced so everyone goes to eat at Smoke and buy bottles of rum at nearby stores.

Thanks for your overall positive feedback. Please also allow us to respond to your feedback regarding the price setting for food and drinks. Overall our goal is to offer good quality food at very reasonable prices (all food is freshly cooked with top quality ingredients). Well, yes if you go to a supermarket and buy food and drinks it will be always cheaper than eating in a restaurant. Actually, many of our guests also appreciate our food offering; see below also comments from previous guests  Anyway, thanks again and happy travels!

Reggae Guesthouse

Tawala, Philippines

Bilbo and Chatthi run this place like they are having their friends over. We loved them! The costs is a bit high compared to other places around that include a motorbike with the room, but RG still may be worth it to some for the vibe. If you need advice on places to go, ask Bilbo. Hes awesome! He also rents his boat out for 1500/day to go to the nearby islands.

The 4 bed dorm stays cold and the beds are comfortable. The cakes, fruit, free water, and kitchen for guest use are great extra touches that make the slighter higher price well worth it. The intro, map, and food recommendations you will get from the owner are a fantastic welcome to the city. Melaka is well worth a day or two on your schedule!

Cocoa Mews

Penang, Malaysia

Clean AC dorms in the middle of Little India. There wasnt much character or vibe here but the dorms only had a few people in it. If you're looking for a quiet and clean AC dorm in the middle of some great food, this is a good bet. If you want a party, Id head to the Reggae.

The main areas of the hostel are not AC'd which can make hanging out there during the day pretty tough. Even at night it is blazing hot without AC. They would sell more drinks if they AC'd the hang out spots. The dorms arent AC'd during the day either so you'll need to go somewhere else if you just want to chill out and read or relax. Oh and once you get off the night bus here, you cant check in till after 1pm. Youll have to go the 5th floor common room to lay down in the heat while you wait.

Eighty8 Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

The location is farther out than most guest houses, but still only a $2 tuk tuk ride from the main nightlife. The staff speak varying degress of english so communication can sometime be difficult, but in general its ok. Although there is a pool table, pool, food, bar, and loud music, the atmosphere is never very lively. This is mostly because their prices of drinks are comparatively expensive and there is no happy hour.

Thank you for the feedback. Cambodia and Phnom Penh are not like western cities, as there has never been any city planning, so the city is spread far and wide. Eighty8 is no more than 200 meters from the focal point of Phnom Penh and the temple that the city derives its name from, Watt Phnom. We have no happy hours due to exceptionally cheap standard prices for alcohol, $1 a draft beer, similar prices for spirits and of course our favorite happy truffles at $1.25 We pride our selves on the swimming pool which can not be had in any other hostels in the city due to there size, and cost. The next available hotel / hostel with a swimming pool will set you back about $40 a night, so $7 a night is surely the bargain of the century. Please note that we pay for staff to go to English lessons, and yes they speak at varying levels of competence, this is a 3rd world country and English is not their first language, we hope that by learning English the staff can go on to do bigger and better things, you should have sat down with some of the poorer speakers and taught them some new words:-)

WE Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand

Clean and cold dorms at a good price, with a nice common area and rooftop bar. its close to Pat Phong and the metro system so nightlife, restaurants, movies, etc are easily accessible. Its only 100 baht to khao san road and the temples if thats your thing. The one big improvement that could be made is AC or more fans in the non dorm areas. the bathrooms and common rooms get pretty hot. it would be nice if they arranged tours or activities for everyone, but thats just being picky. great place!

The InnCrowd Backpackers Hostel 2

Singapore, Singapore

this hostel has some pluses and minuses, but overall a good deal. showers and ac when its on is nice. should have fans in the rooms for when they turn the ac off. staff could also be more sociable. beds are pretty uncomfortable and breakfast is just hard boiled eggs and toast.
