No A/C and only one terribly small fan in the room, which given the heat made the room super hot and in the small kitchen even worse. Only two showers and one toilet per floor which can make things a little difficult. Bed was comfortable, lounge and outdoor area and good security but staff were also hit-and-miss (some seemed pretty grumpy and unhelpful). The location in the red light district is fine also and very close to train station.

Dorm rooms clean but bed way to soft and if your unlucky might be almost sharing a double bed (two singles extremely close). But the place is full of young groups so no atmosphere and they just don’t care/cater for the solo traveller - groups even get free luggage storage but individuals must PAY up to 7eur before/after checkin. Kitchen is also very small (and often filled by groups). It’s a comfortable and clean place but I just wouldn’t recommend for the solo traveller.
Dear guest, Dear Guest, Thank you for giving us a feedback! hope to see you soon in one of our other MEININGER Hotels somewhere in Europe! Greetings from Brussels, Your Meininger Team

Dorm beds are in a little annex attached to the house also not that secure, but the mattresses (or at least mine) could do with a rotation as was very slanted. Walking distance Natural History Museum and the Kombi / Local bus stop (~2km), supermarkets and town a little further, but train station or Train Museum is 10RTGS taxi. Very safe area and beautiful yard would be good for camping. The Kitchen is useable but the one bathroom tended to get a little busy in the mornings. Wifi was good.

This is easily the place to go for budget / DIY Masai Mara as its outside the park so only pay entrance when you Safari. Being able to join a group for a full day Safari at 60USD is also extremely good value. The food prices are quite expensive and whilst they do a kitchen for self-catering it’s a pretty small, but you can still manage. Definitely recommended for DIYers.

Very comfortable and spacious beds in fantastic location, but there really isn’t any atmosphere and not geared for solo travellers to meet people. Common area is just chairs around the table in the kitchen and if you plan of self catering there not many utensils etc.
Thank you for staying with us and your review to make us be better. Hope we can see you next time.

The deluxe 8bd has (noisy) A/C and the 4bd is a fan (wasn’t clear when I booked). Basic breakfast and coffee included which is good but be aware two Saturdays a month they have live shows until 11PM meaning the kitchen is off limits and the bathrooms become shared with all - and it’s loud. However I enjoyed my stay even if for me a little far from the city, but route 2 Primevera minivan easily connects for 10LP. It is in a very good neighbourhood tho, I just like to be close to the city.

Be aware the rooms are above the bar and adjacent the terrace so if your a light sleeper I wouldn’t recommend. But the terrace is closed to the public at 11PM and otherwise I had no problems with ear plugs and I’m a light sleeper. The terrace and rooftop are otherwise terrific and they keep the place very clean. The dorms are also very comfortable and with A/C. Good locations and everything considered I would definitely stay again.

I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again, atmosphere a bit lacking when I was there but they have social activities most days and plenty of social areas so it’s just a case of timing I think. Otherwise comfortable beds, basic but included breakfast and oddly enough day old bread from the bakery for free which I found to be really good toasted, but otherwise still good! Actually they had so much of it I took a few loaves down to Potluck in the Park mobile kitchen (google it, & do it too!).

I wouldn’t hesistate to stay again. Only negatives would be the kitchen is a little small given the number of guests so meal preparation can become a little hard at ‘peak times’ and seating is limited, the bunks also a little ‘rocky’ but overall a very good hostel right in downtown, very clean and spacious dorm rooms (at least the the 4bd was) and multiple seating areas in the building.

+ Great location, good facilities and big comfy bed. Free all day Coffee. - A/C in dorm loud (ear plugs), no breakfast included and whilst the kitchen is good, distinct shortage of cups and some cooking equipment.

The reason you'd stay is the social aspect, which I found really good, as otherwise the dorms can be very hot and the fan in the 8-bed doesn't reach all the beds (I changed from the 8 to the 4 on my second night as the beds in the 4 have individual fans). Two bathrooms so can be a que, and during my entire stay (3n) they didn't bother washing towels and had none left (which is a hassle when yours is at the laundry). Nevertheless I really enjoyed my stay here; but due to the social aspect!!

The only thing to be aware of is the dorm rooms aren't actually rooms; just beds on a Mezzanine floor so can be loud until the 10PM quite time. Also the 5bd (which is actually a 6 with a staff member living in the 6th) is right on an extremely noisy street come Friday and Saturday night partying, so bring ear plugs. Having said that it's a otherwise a great place to stay, plenty of common areas, kitchens ok and it's easily walking distance from the bus stops (furthest being about 1.7km).

Easy to get to airport and old San Juan from very close bus stations. Walking distance to beach. There was a mixup with my booking and what I had booked wasn't available so they put me in a private room and I've absolutely no complaints. Really friendly staff and overall good value, the only slight negative is the kitchen is pretty small but would stay again.

Firstly special big thanks to John who helped me out a lot one night (and recommended a good pizza too), and also to Jarred, but all of the staff are great and they keep the place clean and tidy. Frankly it's great value for Vieques and whilst you could find better, you won't for the price. Try too time your visit with the quizz night (I forget what night that is but you can email them). Would stay again. As a tip for Vieques - bring your food and cash with you if your budget conscious.
Trivia night is every Wednesday during off season. Thanks for your feedback!

For the location it's excellent value, very close to central bus stop and the free city shuttles (but you don't need them) right in Viejo San Juan. They had a free pasta night the night I stayed which was nice, and aside from guest fridges in your room the kitchen is otherwise very good. Rate highly and definitely worth staying if you want to stay in the heart of Viejo San Juan.

The common area is the bar/cafe so no real social aspect, but location is good, beds are comfortable and place is clean and well ran.

Booked the double bed room, but on find finding it has an internal window onto the foyer asked if I could switch rooms. They moved me to the queen which had a skylight and looked nice enough so great, I thought. The queen is actually two singles horizontal and so creates a very very uncomfortable gap and ridge in the center. If your less the 5'8" could sleep across across the bed no problem tho... The only positive I had was they prepared (albeit a really ordinary) breakfast at 0515 for me.

The owner is a champ, super friendly and a genuinely good person. He can organise buses etc for you at cost and basically goes out of his way to help with whatever you need. Wifi is good, beds are good & average (stayed twice), really the only downfall is 2 showers and small fridge in the kitchen (but great breakfast provided) so best to shower the night before when getting ready for TdP. Anyhow if I'm back in town would stay again and so should you.

Location not bad, they hire bikes and they are good enough to get around but the place is a little pricey for what you get. Others I meet just arrived in town and found better down by the lake for less.

Only the 8 bed dorm has a window, the beds are pretty comfortable and a great local beer joint is on the corner nearby, but otherwise a pretty basic hostel. Likely to be empty tho in the off season....it was for me.

In Singapore good value, but Singapore its self is not good value. the roof top social area is really the only social area also as the reception / breakfast area is a not really suited to it. Otherwise very quite rooms from the street and good beds.

It's on Victoria Parade and all rooms face it, so loud, and not much by the way of common lounge/TV room other than 2 very small areas and the bar but otherwise clean, comfortable and for Melbourne well priced.

Wifi on all floors but only worked in the reception area during my stay. Breakfast is quite good and the rooms clean and comfortable. It's a hotel tho so has standard hotel atmosphere, nothing more, nothing less.

The first dorm I checked into was practically raining from the inside, with no fan ventilation including in the bathroom, so everything was damp. I changed rooms the next day and it was better (the bathroom fan worked at least). Location good and as part of Central Backpackers group also get the nightly free beer at the sister hostel down the road, but otherwise standard in terms of price and quality. Would I stay again, probably not immediately without first checking out alternatives.

This really is a home stay, the family live on the mezzanine half way up the stairs. They put effort into their guests and if numbers sufficient might even cook a meal for very good price. There tours also cheaper than on the street through an agency. For me the airport transfer with the husband on his 125cc Honda cruiser was good (scooters are not motorbikes!) - the price was fair and he could actually ride. Only negative is beds are in conjoined areas with no doors and only 1 bathroom.

Really new so really clean. Typical (for Asia) hard beds and internal 4 bed dorms with glazed internal window let a bit too much light in at night, but nothing a curtain won't fix when the owners get time. It literally just opened during my stay. The owners have very good English and very friendly. Location great if you're spending a night before catching the train but for sights and beach you either need a Moto or hire a bike yourself (you can negotiate down to 100k VND/day).

Not a social/party hostel, but the best party street is 30s walk so it doesn't need to be, but far enough from the noise down a safe side alley to still be quite. The family staff are very helpful and friendly, and based solely on them I would recommend the place, but good location, clean and quite so would stay again.

Short walk to all the main sites, and the staff are very friendly and helpful, although only one has a good grasp of English, the others grab him if he's not around tho so never had any problems. Only really downside is the internet was pretty much non-existent so had to use a connection from down the road. Otherwise clean with typical Laos (hard) beds and reasonable (for a hostel) breakfast included.

Typical Veng Vieng hostel, just a bed, although a unique one at that, sort of a tree house theme. Good value for the price and not far from the main social area.

You get what you pay for, cheap and a place to stay but not much else. Staff really friendly and helpful however and will point you in the direction of the sights. Free breakfast is also included, and we'll, it's eatable but for the overall price good value.

Great location and most comfortable beds in south East Asia for sure, although probably because the place is new and fit out still being completed. Once finished the number of bathroom facilities will probably be inadequate for the number of rooms tho, but until then worth a stay - just don't get the staff to organise any tours or travel, go out to the street and save yourself some money.

Great location and the staff can organise bus tickets, visas etc for you which seems to work pretty good. Meals and laundry slightly more than if you walk a little up the street but overall I would (and have since) stayed again.

If your a light sleeper the rooms on the Main Street with the best view are definitely not for you, even with the heavy curtain they aren't very loud. Stayed twice the first time shower was blocked but second was ok.

This is NOT a party hostel, but the rooms are great and the nightlife nearby is far better than the old-town (which incidentally is easily walking distance).

One of the best views available, good value for money and good breakfast although some attention to minor details about the hotel would be nice (more than one power outlet in a room, fixing the shower head )in my cave room to name a couple), but a good place to stay anyhow.

Staff are fantastic and the place is a true social backpackers hostel. Dont let the intial impression of the location put you off either its so close to the beach, stadium, nighlife and a short walk to the city.

Great location, excellent staff but the rooms are very hot if it is hot outside and because of the location if you open a window they then become also very loud. Bring ear plugs if you visit in summer.
