Flamingo Hostel

Krakow, Poland

Friendly and helpful staff. The bartender/pub crawl guy was very energetic and encouraging people to have a good time. Only 3 showers for something like 9 rooms, but it was not as bad as it sounds, you could wait maybe 10 min until the next one is free, mainly because people have different schedules. Floors are squeaky! You could hear people arriving late or leaving early because the floors amplified the sound of people walking! I use earplugs and sometimes that woke me up. Great location!

The 4You Hostel Munich

Munich, Germany

I booked a 3-bed private. Clean, plenty of space, towels provided. The room was facing the bar and the music could be heard in the 4th floor but it was not that noisy. There was a small bar open from 6 pm on the ground floor with one small pool table, it was ok with good music. The only thing is that it could use some more space in the common area. Breakfast was the good with the classic bread, jam, cereal, milk and on top of that eggs and yogurt. Overall, good value for the money.

Sweet & Cheap

Split, Croatia

Very friendly and helpful host (Ana). Clean rooms and bathroom with towel and facilities to cook provided. Only shared with another person. Even though it was close to the center, the area did not look so good (it was my impression). The main door to the apartment was not so easy to lock, but individual key to the room is provided.

Basel Back Pack

Basel, Switzerland

The location is not the best, but a ticket for all public transport is provided with the reservation. Hence, the center can be reached very easily, as well as the train station (which is only 10 min walking). The staff was helpful to answer questions and to provide help. Breakfast is not included and costs 8 Francs, cereal, bread, jam. fruits, coffee, tea, no cheese or ham. I did not use the common facilities so much, but it seemed that not many backpackers were in for the period I was.

Strasbourg, France

Location is good enough as Strasbourg is a small city, in less than 10 min (walking) the center can be reached. Also, the main station is not that far (15 min). Quality of the place is really good, kind of hotel like. Breakfast is not provided. Because of the previous two features, not so many young people hang around in the common facilities, so not much opportunity to know some other travelers.

Breakfast is not included, but is cheap (around 3-4 euros depending on what you eat). Noise from other rooms are heard, but it is not that bad. Staff was helpful and willing to provide tips on activities to do. Lockers available, lock with 5 euros deposit. Towels for 1 euro. Books available to read. Kitchen. Right next to the Dom Cathedral and to the station. Toilets could be a bit cleaner (some of them).

Birka Hostel

Stockholm, Sweden

It is close to the center and to a metro station. The common facilities are not that encouraging to meet other people, maybe what is missing is selling some drinks or have some daily activity there.

Sleep in Heaven

Copenhagen, Denmark

It is kind of far from the center itself (20 min walking), but you can easily take the bus. It has some restaurants (and of course 7/11) nearby. Pool table (for 10 Kr). Only 4 showers and 3 toilets for like 8 rooms, but it is not such a problem in the morning. One of the days I stayed there was no water from 8 to 9:30 (but I guess it does not happen so often). Free internet. Breakfast for 50 Kr was the average (cereal, milk, bread, jam, juice).

Hotel Central

Casablanca, Morocco

Man in the reception was rude, he answered in a bad manner questions asked. Beggars just outside the hotel, also the square in front of it look unsafe. There was a bar full of all men in the square in front of it. There is no good common area. Breakfast is only mint tea, juice and bread with jam. For prices elsewhere in Morocco, I think I paid too much for this, even though I had my own bedroom with a shower inside.

Tangier Melting Pot Hostel

Tangier, Morocco

Indeed difficult to find, but easier if you first go to Continental Hotel (which has more signs of which direction to go) and when you think you are close just ask!! Because the entrance is not so obvious. I arrived to Tangier's airport and had to take a taxi to the Medina, there was no train or bus!! The rooms are close to each other, so you can hear the noise in the hallway, but it was ok, there were no problems. The medina is small and the hostel is in it, so you are close to the shops!!

Home Lisbon Hostel

Lisbon, Portugal

Very good hostel, the staff was pretty helpful and eager to answer questions. Every day there is a free walking tour, where the guide is pretty enthusiastic, gets your attention and takes you to the important places. Also, there is a "mamma's" dinner for only 10 euros, which is a typical Portuguese dish and it is plenty of food and they even let you have a 2nd round if you want!! Finally, there is a pub crawl, which is great if you want to drink a lot, as there is one hour all you can drink!!

Astor Hyde Park

London, England

Large common area. Staff very helpful in giving you information. Close to 3 museums and of course the (Hyde) park. You do not hear the noise from other rooms or hallway. Free soap. Missing charger next to the bed.

Good location. Clean rooms. Friendly staff. No complains. Really good!! Breakfast all you can eat for 3.80

Prague Square Hostel

Prague, Czech Republic

Excellent location, right next to the old town square. Staff was pretty helpful and open to answer questions. However, the atmosphere it is not the best if you want to meet other people, as the common is reduced and mostly used for breakfast. But being surrounded by bars, restaurants and in the middle of the city, if you really want to meet some people, you can just go downstairs to any bar.

A&O Dresden Hauptbahnhof

Dresden, Germany

Very clean and excellent facilities inside the rooms. Close to the main station, however a little bit far from the center (but only like 15 min walking). It is like a hotel in terms of standards, but only that you have to share the room with other 3 people (in my case I stayed in a 4-bed room). On the other hand, if you're looking to meet people and stuff, there is not really a good common area for the people to hang out (only the free wifi area)

Heart of Gold Hostel

Berlin, Germany

Excellent location. Movies, pool and other activities to do in the hostel. Cheap drinks. However, 3 showers, toilets and sinks per floor (which has around 20 rooms of 6-7 people, not sure about this, but should be around that number), one of them was closed for 2 days and was not repaired during my stay, which made it more difficult at peak times. Overall, I would recommend it, just because it is ok and the location is really good.

In general it was ok, I only spoke to the staff when arriving and leaving and they were polite and helpful. Breakfast was the classical cereal with milk, orange juice and bread with jam and butter. However, in the room I stayed there was only one power point, this meant that 3 people had to share it for charging the phone and fortunately nobody had a laptop to charge also. Besides, the room I stayed in, the walls were not well painted and they had holes and marks from previous remodelings.

Aloha Hostel

Paris, France

Good location, normal breakfast, helpful staff. Maybe it lacks of bigger common rooms and activities to do, not the greatest environment to interact and meet other people. The room itself was good, shower and toilet for each one. Not enough power points for each person in case you want to charge you cell phone.
