A nice chiled out hostel a stones throw away from monkey janes where you can party. Though typical family run operation sometimes it's hard to work out who is working there and who is visiting, Though one ninth we myself and other were subject to an attempt to usher us to bed by a man I'm still not sure that worked there or not as he was sleeping in my dorm. This was both annoying and frankly insulting as we were not drunk or loud and reception is 24 hours. Bit pricey for bookings

This is an amazing place, while XingPing is busier than you'd think it's still a very relaxed and nice place to vist stay a night or two. The staff here are utterly amazing in both the hostel and Cafe, English is perfect which makes up for my pathetic Cantonese. Rooms are a nice seize not huge but nice, though being wood can be very loud if you have uncurtious neighbours. Best pizza in China as they do thin crust in an huge pizza oven. Good atmosphere for meeting people.

Very much in the heart of the Rice terraces above Dazhai village with beautiful views and really nice rooms and a common area/ lounge/ dinning room. I've recommended this hostel to other travellers who wish to go to the terraces. Food is good but you are paying tourist prices so 20-40¥ a meal. But they serve Beerlao so that's ok in my book stay two days to enjoy terraces properly and bring a small bag or its longer than 40 mins to walk here

Guilin Riverside Hostel

While the rooms are quite nice as is the veranda. what I can't not abide is a hostel deliberately trying to fleece you. I asked about the bamboo boat, didn't like their price so asked for information about the bus to the pier, suddenly the bamboo boats were cancelled by the government that day 15/7/13 and only the big ferries were running. This was a lie, barefaced. Two busses and the boat were only 175¥ 25¥ less than they charged. There were also at least two rats in reception at night.

While I feel my stay was coloured by my room mates the hostel is clean well maintained and in a good location for shopping and the night market. Several hostels across the world stipulate that passport holders of that country can't stay in that hostel, it did feel that there were a number of people living in the dorms and this led the social area to be quite intimidating for a lone traveler not speaking and Cantonese or Mandarin

A really good backpackers hostel offering all the essentials, western fod a good bar and tour booking opertunities. Obviously you have to do their Halong Bay castaway, even as a single traveler you won't regret it All the staff are really friendly and helpful- while I was on castaway they tried to sortout problems I was having with my Chinese visa It's location is great much closer to several key tourist sites than downtown. Cheaper options but this is The Origonal Hanoi Backpackers BUFFALO!

Not quite in the exact centre this hotel, offered great facilities at a great rate, the little enclave it e habits is close to both local and western food. The staff are freindly but pushy with bus tickets which are prices, but the bus was quite nice. Main point a dorm room in hue backpackers costs the same pp as a private room with ensuite, tv, mini fridge, wifi, zircon and a fan room, excellent value if no breakfast though. I'd recommend it.

A very warm and friendly environment in a cold part of Vietnam. A small family run hostel currently under going extension renovations. It's in the pod style but you won't spend much time in the dorm, wifi only works in the common area but you can organise so many things through the guys here you bound to find an adventure. I recommend their version of the easy rider. Also if the offer is made join them for the meals at local rut rants, BBQ and noodles are amazing. Really great place.

I enjoyed my stay welcome Hannah and iced tea was lovely too. I'd stay here again in HCMC

cheap and actually well places being neither in the city centre or far from it. Battambang is a sleepy town even for Cambodia the bar here can keep you watered and fed well into the night with a good group of Ex-pats. The quiz on Wednesdays is fun too. The dorm I stayed in was spacious though even with the fans, aircon upgrade would be nice. The cold showers arn't a massive issue for $2. The dog is harmless. Tuktuk tours ask at reception for Mr Chenda, DJ their driver is good too

Very much a flashpacker location if your not a budget you can really enjoy your time here, given how early a lot of Cambodia closes its stays open pretty late serves average priced beer but very good food at tourist prices. The bus tickets include pick up and are very fairly priced, as are the other tours they can sort with their Tuk Tuk guys, Wifi is sketchy. Khmer staff are amazing, few gaps in their English but their English is better than your Khmer so don't get frustrated.

You wouldn't think this jungle theme hostel was sitting in the middle of Chiang Mai, a bit sleepy but staff are friendly and the free toast and tea/coffe is always welcome- the honesty system for bottled water, sifts drinks a beer is good too. The owners does 100/200 baht runs in his jeep to tiger kingdom for you and they can organise the cheapest slow boat to Luang Prabang that I could find though the free stop over is in the worst motel ever, but the trip was a great way to meet people.

New road guest house - I arrived early during the night (5am) due to my bus, when I arrived I'm told I am to early to check in despite emailing ahead 48 hours to tell them when I'd arrive- this email did not get a response. the staff that met me couldn't give a damn and in no way tried to help instead they watched YouTube, though I was offered a hammock in the common area until check in. First hostel i have ever stayed at where this has happened. The position of the hostel is poor, 20 minutes

This is a great hostel on an Island dominated by resorts. With nice spacey dorm rooms some with curtains for your bunk, and ensuite it's very well equipped. The open common area has a big TV and western and local channels great for the odd rainy day in paradise. Though its not close to the main chaweng beach, it's very close to a quiter beach bang rak, which does the same job. So nice local bars and good restaurants. The staff are incredibly helpful friendly and accommodating.

The wifi was temperamental, but when your on a tropical island who cares right? However there seemed to be a double standard as to what was needed when you checked out and the 1000 baht key deposit was ridiculous. The toilets when the bins went emptied absolutely stank and the showers didn't have hooks for your clothes or towels. No common room which is a shame, but a marginal discount was offered at the bar opposite. Yes it's cheap but there are other hostels for 250/ 300 Baht a night

When the government power is off our WiFi provider doesn't have an alternative power source as we do which causes problems. Check out is at 10am as people arriving to the island can then check into their beds as often they have had a long journey to get here. All key deposits are refunded on check out when you return the key. Our common areas are the restaurant/bar and pool area at DJL and also the stone tables and chairs outside. Quick tip - Don't sniff waste bins in Thailand.

Due to the number of people clearly just living here it has a horrible vibe if your just passing through, nothing here really wants to make you stay unless you just want to get absolutely wasted and make noise until the early hours, your over a pub that plays music, can't hear that but you can hear your next dorms conversations. Insufficient facilities only two hobs in kitchen, and it's just rotten really if you want a drink and party sure, but if you want to get a decent job do not.
