SPACE riverhouse hostel, Nikko, Japan

2nd Sep 2016

STAY HERE!! Don't be put off about it being far from town, that's what makes this place so special. It's in the middle of the forest right on a beautiful river. Scout is an amazing host and runs the place on his own. He makes an incredible breakfast every morning and does an awesome job to cater to dietary requirements. He also does several drop offs and pick ups throughout the day in town. And has a great range of maps for hiking in Nikko. This place was awesome!! I will definitely be back.

Wise Owl Hostels Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan

31st Aug 2016

If you care at all about animal welfare DON'T STAY HERE. They have a huge owl permanently chained to a stand on the front desk. I enquired and this creature is never allowed to move around or off her chain. It's despicable. I don't care what is considered 'acceptable' this hostel should know better and should organise a MUCH better life for this animal. The hostel was clean, but the beds were very hot in summer, with noisy ineffective a/c. The staff weren't very knowledgable about major sites

View Property Reply

Thank you your stay and review. So at first the owl our general manager she has her owl room in top reef and she goes and takes rest several time a week. As you said when she is in the lobby she is tied rope but she can fly in her room. So don't worry so bad. And sorry about uncomfortable hot atmosphere and noise of a/c. Also we should know and get more information.Thank you for your comment. WOH satff

We accidentally booked the wrong dorm and so had to stay in the private room which was just down the road. This private room was amazing! It had a balcony, mezzanine floor, small kitchen and vaulted ceilings. I didn't want to leave. At night we hung out at the main part of the hostel where there was a really good vibe, and despite being such a small place was really easy to meet other travellers. It is located super close to a JR station and during the day it was easy to get to sites.

Piece Hostel Sanjo, Kyoto, Japan

This hostel looked more like a 5 star hotel than a hostel. It was absolutely beautiful. This is one of two Piece Hostels in Kyoto, and while it is located a little bit further away from the main station, it is definitely worth it! It is located in a really good area of Kyoto. Close to subway stations, the river, and other really beautiful parts of Kyoto. The beds were huge and the breakfast was amazing. Would definitely recommend staying here. It was beautiful.

The staff in this hostel are absolutely amazing! They went above and beyond to help us out with everything we needed. The hostel itself was very clean with lovely facilities. It is located a little while away from the main areas of Shinjuku and Shibuya, but it is literally across the road from Asakusa Shensoji Temple. The atmosphere here was lacking a little bit. But overall a lovely place to stay.

This place is amazing! Such a great atmosphere, the bar in the second building is great every night. There's a beautiful pool, beds are HUGE and there a great big lockers under the bunks. But the best thing about this place is the staff!! They went above and beyond to help us with a range of issues including lost items and a missed bus. I honestly had the best time here and would stay again in a heartbeat!!

Our experience was definitely influence by the fact it is low season. Sihanoukville is clearly a very seasonal destination. Consequently everything was really quiet and there wasn't much of an atmosphere. The hostel itself is really good though. Nice pool, good bar and menu, with a spacious chill out area upstairs. We arrived off our bus really early, and there was no where we could wait at the hostel out of the rain which was annoying. Would stay again, but definitely in high season.

This place is absolutely awesome for the price! It feels more like a resort than a hostel. Poolside bar, football pitch, big airy rooms, really good cheap food, and it's in a great location. The staff weren't overly friendly, and the wifi did drive me a nuts as you have to login again overtime you turned your screen off. But the pool facilities and the rooms definitely are worth the stay. Would come back here if I was in Siem Reap again.

A really fun hostel with incredibly helpful staff! The rooms were spacious enough and had varying level of bathrooms. Breakfast was substantial and the rooftop bar was really lively at night. The wifi wasn't great. But the hostel was located in a very convenient area. Their HaLong Bay trip was really good. Prehaps a little more quiet than some, but in a really secluded area. Didn't see any other tourists which was good.

The rooms here were great. Super spacious with no bunk beds and great A/C. Plus a shower that you could use after getting off a night bus. Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly. Located within walking distance of Ancient Town, but would need a bike or scooter to get to the tailor area or the beach. The common area had comfy hammocks and bean bags. Wifi was pretty ordinary and would only work occasionally in the common area. Overall a good place where I would stay again.

Good hostel in a convenient location. Can be a little tricky to find as it is down an alley. Has heaps of facilities including a roof top bar, pool table, movie room, large room for storing bags and a showers you could use even after you have checked. The beds had their own power points and lamps. However only had small lockers for valuables. The free breakfast was a hot cooked buffet style, however everything except toast and fruit had meat in it which was definitely unfortunate.

She will organise any activities, motorbikes or buses that you want. And will go out of her way to help you.She even made everyone breakfast. It felt like being at home. Was so sad to leave! Great location in the middle of the RLD. It's a very large hotel, the only common area being the bar downstairs, which cmakes meeting other travelers a bit difficult. The free breakfast each morning was good and the bar has special deals for guests of the hostel. Was better than some others I've stayed in whilst in Amsterdam as while there is a smoking room, that's not the main focus of the people there. No kitchen was slightly annoying. But super close to everything you want in Amsterdam.

Good to read that you enjoyed our location so much! We understand that you would've appreciated another common area than our bar and smoking room, and we hope that the lack of one hasn't affected your stay too much. Thank you for your feedback! - St. Christopher's at The Winston

It's a very big hostel. The bar down stairs is a good place to meet other travelers, as if the free dinner that is on each night. The kitchen is tiny considering the number of people staying there. Each floor only has 4 bathrooms which means you can be waiting up to an hour to use one. It's in a really good location, close to everything including the train station.

This hostel is more of a hotel with one dorm room for females and one for males. It's spread across three different buildings. Interesting mix of people from young backpackers to older couples. Decent kitchen and really spacious bathrooms. Really close to supermarkets and bars and a great cafe at the end of the road. Very close to the tram to get into the city center & down the road from Slottsskogen (massive park with a zoo in it). There isn't really a common area in the building I was in.

Great location, about 10 minutes from Central Station. Beautifully refurbished old building. Kitchen is big and we had some great nights with everyone talking and drinking around the kitchen tables. The rooms had small lockers for your valuables, but not really anywhere to put your bag. Paying for bed linen is a bit ridiculous (who backpacks or travels anywhere carrying their own linen??). But having free pasta available was nice. Everything was extremely clean and wifi was decent.

This hostel has an excellent location, right in Old Town, but only a 5 minute walk from the bus/train station. Good size common areas with a 24hr bar at reception. Kitchen is quite small, but still usable. Big lockers under the beds made it easy to keep your belongings safe. Bathrooms were always clean. A great hostel to stay at if you're doing the Alpine Crossing. Good vibe, clean bathrooms and a good kitchen. This hostel is essentially the Haad Rin arena where they hold Muay Tai fights. Our room was actually in the gym. The bathroom was revolting, it smelt so bad we couldn't go in there. And there was a broken window that could've let people in. However great location. 5 minute walk from the beach and shops. And as our room was in the gym, free entry to fights. We were there for the Full Moon party, and if you just need somewhere to sleep with fun people to hang out with, then definitely stay here.

The set up of rooms was appalling. They had 8 beds in what should have been maximum of 4. Four bunk beds squashed together with no gaps between them. Showers were push button ones that stayed on for 15 seconds at a time and you could not adjust the temperature. And there was nowhere to put any clothes where they don't get wet. STAY HERE!! You will not want to leave this hostel!! It's like being in a big family that really knows how to party. Great kitchen, common areas, bathroom, beds, rooms, wifi and location. And the best staff you could hope to meet. I will be back as soon as I can!

This place feels like hospital. Terrible atmosphere, definitely not a place for young travellers. The wifi is terrible. And showers that turn off every 30 seconds is highly irritating. But the rooms and bathrooms are spacious and kept clean. And it's nice and close to the Metro.

A super friendly hostel, really close to the beach. Great breakfast, with wonderful staff and a supermarket literally next door. I would definitely recommend this place, I had a great time!

It's actually a hotel where they have converted some of the rooms into dorms. So no common area or any cooking facilities. But the rooms are a good size, we had a balcony and there were TV's with satellite channels in the rooms which were good. Decent location, 15 minute walk to most places.

Nice big lockers. Ensuites are really tiny, but there are bathrooms down the hall so it's not too bad. Breakfast is expensive and there are no cooking facilities at all, so it's really difficult to eat cheaply. But drinks are reasonably priced, and there's usually some sort of party at night.

This is a hotel that has has some rooms converted into dorm rooms. The directions are appalling, and it was very difficult to identify. The rooms were nice and spacious with good bathrooms and satellite TV's. Breakfast was like 5 or 6 Euros, but had a lot to choose from. Decent location, about a 15 minute walk from the Old Town.

THIS IS THE BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD!! We (like everyone else who stays here) extended our stay here... 3 times. You won't want to leave. Ever. The most amazing staff, people, atmosphere, space. We have already reorganised our trip so we can come back here before we leave Europe. The best moustache that has ever existed, a Pikachu onesie, handcuffs and the quest to steal the polar bear hat. You will not find a better place to stay. Anywhere.

Really friendly staff. Beautifully bright fresh rooms. Having TVs with thousands movies in your room is great! Kitchen is unfortunately rather small, but not unusable. The dining area is a good social place, and having the common area (for this hostel and the other CroParadise hostels), 2 minutes down the road is really good. It keeps the hostel quiet at night for people who want to sleep, but also allows a space for people who want to party to do so and also meet people from the other hostels.

Such an amazing hostel. Asim and the other people on the desk are some of the nicest and friendliest people I've met working in hostels. Such a great atmosphere here. So many different types of people travelling in such different ways and so easy to meet and talk to everyone. A great place to chill or go out. Free breakfast is a bonus. If you're coming to Sarajevo, definitely stay here.

Staff made girls feel very uncomfortable. Were very inappropriate. People used our room as a hallway. Don't expect any sleep or privacy. However a good party hostel if you're a boy. Directions are abysmal, had to go to two other hostels to find the place.
