City Backpackers Hostel

Stockholm, Sweden

Great location, about 10 minutes from Central Station. Beautifully refurbished old building. Kitchen is big and we had some great nights with everyone talking and drinking around the kitchen tables. The rooms had small lockers for your valuables, but not really anywhere to put your bag. Paying for bed linen is a bit ridiculous (who backpacks or travels anywhere carrying their own linen??). But having free pasta available was nice. Everything was extremely clean and wifi was decent.

This hostel has an excellent location, right in Old Town, but only a 5 minute walk from the bus/train station. Good size common areas with a 24hr bar at reception. Kitchen is quite small, but still usable. Big lockers under the beds made it easy to keep your belongings safe. Bathrooms were always clean. The hostel offers lots of activities from bobsledding to shooting. And the girls on reception were lovely. I would definitely recommend staying here.

The Monk's Bunk

I stayed here in late November, which means fewer people around. However, even with only 10 people staying here this place had an amazing atmosphere. Travelling alone, I met some amazing people within 10 minutes of arriving. The bathrooms are huge and always clean and the kitchen is great. Having a bar in the hostel was excellent and made meeting people that much easier. The staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to help you with whatever you needed. Definitely stay here!

Awesome location, with a really cool bar/restaurant on the 1st floor. And a kitchen/outdoor/spa area on the roof. It's a very bog hostel which leave you feeling a little bit like you're in a hotel, but there's a good vibe about the place with a travel shop for advice downstairs and some good food place's down the street.

A bit of a walk in to the main bit of town. Has two sections, one for dorms and one for private rooms, with each section having it's own kitchen. No one was very talkative in the private room area, but the backpacker bit was more chatty.

Quite a big hostel. Massive kitchen which is awesome, and big clean bathrooms. Good location and this hostel has some great discounts on activities in Rotorua. Wasn't great for meeting people but still a good place to stay.

A great hostel to stay at if you're doing the Alpine Crossing. Good vibe, clean bathrooms and a good kitchen. Doesn't really have much a communal area, but the kitchen acts as kind of the hub of the hostel and there's a pub next door to chill out in after the hike. They also have hiking gear for hire if you've forgotten something.

Palio (Haad Rin) Hostel

Koh Phangan, Thailand

This hostel is essentially the Haad Rin arena where they hold Muay Tai fights. Our room was actually in the gym. The bathroom was revolting, it smelt so bad we couldn't go in there. And there was a broken window that could've let people in. However great location. 5 minute walk from the beach and shops. And as our room was in the gym, free entry to fights. We were there for the Full Moon party, and if you just need somewhere to sleep with fun people to hang out with, then definitely stay here.

Massive hostel, not great for meeting people. Beds were absolutely crammed in. It was insane. And showers stayed on for 15 seconds at a time with no temperature control. Breakfast was decent and beds were comfy. But paying for wifi these days is ridiculous.

The set up of rooms was appalling. They had 8 beds in what should have been maximum of 4. Four bunk beds squashed together with no gaps between them. Showers were push button ones that stayed on for 15 seconds at a time and you could not adjust the temperature. And there was nowhere to put any clothes where they don't get wet. However breakfast was decent and the TV room was cool. But you should NOT have to pay for wifi!!

Very well located, with a good breakfast and rooms. But if you're not there to smoke there's not much in the way of socialising. There's only wifi in the common areas, and it's a bit temperamental. However would definitely stay here again.

In good location, easy to get to most places. The free breakfast is good, and it was really clean. However due to it being such a large hostel, it's a bit more like a hotel with a bar downstairs than anything else. It's not the best place to meet people. Wifi is also only in the bar and isn't overly reliable. Overall a decent place to stay.

This place feels like hospital. Terrible atmosphere, definitely not a place for young travellers. The wifi is terrible. And showers that turn off every 30 seconds is highly irritating. But the rooms and bathrooms are spacious and kept clean. And it's nice and close to the Metro.

It's actually a hotel where they have converted some of the rooms into dorms. So no common area or any cooking facilities. But the rooms are a good size, we had a balcony and there were TV's with satellite channels in the rooms which were good. Decent location, 15 minute walk to most places.

Nice big lockers. Ensuites are really tiny, but there are bathrooms down the hall so it's not too bad. Breakfast is expensive and there are no cooking facilities at all, so it's really difficult to eat cheaply. But drinks are reasonably priced, and there's usually some sort of party at night.

This is a hotel that has has some rooms converted into dorm rooms. The directions are appalling, and it was very difficult to identify. THIS IS THE BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD!! We (like everyone else who stays here) extended our stay here... 3 times. You won't want to leave. Ever. The most amazing staff, people, atmosphere, space. We have already reorganised our trip so we can come back here before we leave Europe. The best moustache that has ever existed, a Pikachu onesie, handcuffs and the quest to steal the polar bear hat. You will not find a better place to stay. Anywhere.

Really friendly staff. Beautifully bright fresh rooms. Having TVs with thousands movies in your room is great! Kitchen is unfortunately rather small, but not unusable. The dining area is a good social place, and having the common area (for this hostel and the other CroParadise hostels), 2 minutes down the road is really good. It keeps the hostel quiet at night for people who want to sleep, but also allows a space for people who want to party to do so and also meet people from the other hostels.

Such an amazing hostel. Asim and the other people on the desk are some of the nicest and friendliest people I've met working in hostels. Such a great atmosphere here.
