Wonderful to be given a fresh juice on arrival! The included breakfast is fine - basic eggs, sweet toast and grey coffee. The single beds in the dorm benefit from more breeze which is nice. Staff friendly, as are the dog and cat, and the location is just a couple of blocks from the coast.

Great kitchen, and the garden and lounge area are perfect for relaxing and socialising. The location is the main downside - it's a good 15-20 minute walk to the nearest metro. There are 2 supermarkets 2 blocks away which is ideal. The system for recording drinks relies on people marking what they've taken, and someone marked theirs against our name... staff were happy to rectify the mistake though.

In 18 months travelling we have never had a hostel with free laundry - what a treat! Roberto is a star - his welcome & introduction are so helpful, he will tell you all you need to know about the town, & also helped us with our onward travel to Colombia. The location is good (not too far up the hill), the beds are clean & comfy & the showers are hot - just make sure no-one's showering at the same time or the pressure disappears! There's a huge underused bar area downstairs for socialising.

David is extremely helpful & welcoming. The hostel has a nice atmosphere with a comfy lounge area, TV and nice open plan dining area & garden. Kitchen is big, clean and well equipped. Breakfast was basic (hot drinks, bread jam & butter) but the bread was very fresh. There are no lockers in the dorm - only in the kitchen downstairs. Not a big problem but it's nicer to have your valuables in the bedroom. water is hot enough, and beds are comfy. We would definitely recommend this hostel.

Good: helpful & friendly staff, comfy beds, good tour agency (the sandboarding & buggy tour was good & reasonably priced). Bad security. Rooms are easily accessed by public. 'Lockers' are infact small safes, good for passports & money but too small for ipad or laptop. They kept our laptop in a 'secure' locked drawer but everytime we gave it to them they did not lock the drawer. They then temporarily misplaced our laptop, to be refound just under the reception desk, not secured.

Inka Crazy Hostel

Good location (a few minutes from the main plaza), and good value - it was the cheapest we could find. It's really new, and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The facilities are about what you would expect for a budget hostel. The beds are comfy, but the dorm area is really noisy as 4 rooms are separated by only thin chipboard. Main downside - inedible breakfast - stale old bread and jam, and really bad coffee! Despite this, we would recommend as a budget option - the bar is cheap.

A lovely place to stay - breakfast is fine, the bathroom and kitchen were clean, the shower had hot water, wifi works, and there are lockers in the dorms. Location is good - not too far up the steep hill!

Nuevo Horizonte Hostel

We had a great first stay at this hostel, & returned a few weeks later to find things had gone downhill somewhat... the hostel is really cold - there's sufficient bedding, but the kitchen, bathrooms and common areas are uncomfortably cold. And although the staff are friendly, they are just never around! The facilities are clean enough, and the dog is cute but needs to be trained - pooping in the kitchen and yapping loudly and often is not exactly ideal! Hot water, good kitchen & comfy beds tho.

Freezing cold, but enough blankets for the (very comfy) beds. Dog needs training - it humps the sofa cushions in the lounge and poops in the kitchen! Water hot for showers, wifi works.Kitchen equipped enough for cooking.

Our room was uncomfortably hot and the electricity wasn't strong enough to get the fan to make any difference. The lady at the front desk was helpful when I was robbed on a bus. Nice courtyard area to relax in and the kitchen has enough equipment for cooking. Cute cats! Location is great - just a couple of blocks from the main square.

Casa Caracol

San Cristobal de las Casas, Mexico

This hostel has so much potential but there's not enough focus on the things that matter - a kitchen is great but not if it's filthy and there is nothing to cook with, and free coffee is also a bonus but there were no cups, just second-hand pot noodle tubs. The staff are friendly and helpful, the showers are hot, and smokers will feel right at home, but for us, the room was icy cold, the weed smoking was incessant and the location wasn't quite central enough, despite the cheaper prices.

Hostal Pochon

Oaxaca, Mexico
83%

We loved our time at Hostal Pochon, the staff is great - helpful and knowledgeable with things to do and how to get around. The breakfast is great - good coffee, and either eggs or crepes with fruit and jelly. The main negative is due to the water shortage - the shower was sometimes cold or lacking in any power at all, and it's difficult to get dishes clean with a trickle of cold water. The location is a few blocks north of the centre, but easy walking distance for the price.

There´s a lovely big courtyard to relax in, and the breakfast is fine (good coffee). Location is convenient too, just a few blocks from the main square. No kitchen though, and the bathrooms could be cleaner, but it´s a nice place.

A perfect home from home :o) the staff are friendly and helpful, and the location is great - just a couple of blocks from the zocalo. Breakfast is fine - cereal, toast, fruit, coffee etc, and the courtyard is a lovely place to relax. The 4 bed dorm shares its bathroom with the dorm on the other side - a sign in the bathroom to remind people to lock - and unlock - both doors would be helpful!

An awesome place to stay in Kashgar - lovely big old courtyard to socialise in, and the room (we had a double without a bathroom) was big and clean enough. The kitchen has enough equipment to cook in but you may have to wait your turn. We extended our stay.

Location is great, directly over the road from the metro. Beds in the dorms were clean, even if the room was a bit cluttered with stuff that can't just have belonged to the current occupants! Staff don't seem to be too happy to be there but are helpful enough. The common room is great, with seating and pool table - great for socialising. I would stay there again.

We absolutely loved Jalan Jalan! Alan is ever-present and goes above and beyond to help you enjoy your time in Melaka. The location is perfect, really central. Some people may be bothered by the temple and mosque nearby but being invited to the temple for a ceremony and free food more than made up for it. The dorm is airy and clean and woe-betide any mosquitoes that try to join you; Alan's the king of mosquito coils! Bathrooms are clean, nice common area for socialising and free wifi. Loved it!

An excellent hostel - the staff are wonderful, friendly and helpful, the breakfast is immense with proper coffee, the bathrooms are clean and spacious with huge rain shower heads, and there's a roof terrace to relax and socialise. I was concerned about the location but it's no problem at all, Little India is a short walk away and for that you get a quieter location. We loved it!
