I've stayed at this hostel four times, about a week each, over the span of about a year. Having watched and experienced it over this extended period of time, I'd say it is a beautiful place, and very quiet for a hostel as long as you don't have a group staying over. They also seem to have gotten new pillows and mattresses - kudos, for their old ones were nearly unsleepable on. Not the friendliest staff, but they get the job done.

This was the first time I wanted out of the hostel in the middle of the night. At about 3am a group of guys and girls stampeded in, drunk, shouting and singing at the top of their voices and crashing chairs onto the floor in the hallway, and they persisted for a FULL HOUR in the crack of the night. Apparently, not a single staff member is in the hostel during nighttime. Nice security, huh? Also, one Window in our dorm room was broken, letting in cold night air all night long. Would not return.

Beautiful building, inside and out, in a great location in Sacramento. The place is clean and also offers parking at five dollars a day, which is a good deal for the price. My only complaints are the quality of the bedding materials - very old mattresses with wiry springs that you can feel right through the sheets, and scraggly roughly cut felt blankets. The breakfast is also rather simple compared to other hostels - an English muffin, a Granny smith apple, oatmeal packets, and a cup of Joe.
