OKAY Guesthouse

Phnom Penh, Cambodia

It really was 'okay'. What you would expect for the price. Our room on the first floor has terrible damp and peeling ceiling but I think the newer rooms upstairs are better.

Puriwasi Lima

Lima, Peru

We only stays here for 2 nights but found it to be great value in the four bed dorm. The only downside is that the window/shutter doors open out onto the roadside and it did get very noisy both nights. Internally the place has a nice vibe with a communal lounge area and a roof terrace- just a shame there weren't more people around to enjoy it with when we were there as I'm sure it has the potential for a good party!

Villa Melgar

Arequipa, Peru

We had a great stay here from stat to finish- the rooms were spacious and clean, breakfast was great and I cannot say more about the helpfulness of the staff who were always so milling and willing to give you advise. Such fantastic prices for the whole stay!

La Dolce Vita Bolivia

Sucre, Bolivia

The best Hostel in Bolivia! It is more like a hotel and perfect for anyone coming to study spanish looking for somewhere a little quieter. Fantastic hot showers and big rooms. Great location only a block from the market and 2 blocks from the main square. We loved it!! They also have the cutest, friendliest cat we have ever met- made us feel even more at home!!

Hostal Atacama Tatai's

San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

Really enjoyed our stay here, the hostel is fairly new but has a lovely charm to it with all rooms built around a central courtyard. They make it really easy to book excursions through them too! The only downside is that there are no lockers and it can get very noisy at night as there is no curfew- not ideal when some trips start a 4am! Our room wasn't cleaned for our entire stay and being the desert it got very sandy! Overall though a great base in San Pedro and lovely staff!

Hostel in Salta

Salta, Argentina

Had a great stay here, really sociable atmosphere. We were even upgraded to a private room instead of a dorm when they saw we were a couple which is a nice touch when you're travelling on a budget! The weekly assado BBQ is great to and rally brings everyone together.

Art Factory

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Loved this hostel, beautiful building! Great location in San Telmo and really sociable, met so many great people! Lovely roof terrace bar, my only criticism is that the bar prices were so high, you expect a hostel to charge slightly less than the bars so on a backpacking budget we couldn't afford it and also the kitchen is TINY for so many people staying there. We extended our stay twice, it's a great base and staff are really friendly. Decent breakfast but Some fruit at would be good!

Hostel e Pousada El Shaddai

Foz do Iguacu, Brazil

We only stayed here for one night but it was perfect for a trip to the falls, close to the bus stop and a great breakfast! Staff very friendly and helpful!

Residencial Das Araras

Porto Seguro, Brazil

disappointed! the hostel info states that there is a kitchen we could use however we were told on arrival we could not use the fridge so this left us somewhat limited! It is a 'controlled' environment, the husband and wife contradicted each other in what we were and weren't allowed to do, we were told to 'leave some breakfast for the others' where a buffet was offered-very rude!, booked mixed sex rooms on the website but they they separated us int male/female. I felt like I was at guide camp!

With a full hostel there was no space in the kitchen fridge, however, the client and her group had no trouble filling our bar refrigerator with several cases of beer and other drinks! The client and her group did use the kitchen almost daily and prepared many meals! As far as the breakfast was concerned, let's just say that the client and her friends ate very well, consuming large, copious amounts of food, without much thought for the other guests, hence a friendly reminder was needed, to please have some consideration for other guests who also wanted to eat breakfast.

The best hostel I have ever stayed in! Absolutely stunning setting set in cabins in the rainforest. Osmar and Suzanna and all the staff were so friendly and welcoming, we extended our stay twice and were so sad to leave! The best cakes baked freshly every day and yoga classes on the veranda made this a trip we will not forget. Rooms were lovely, comfortable beds which are made every day! Do not miss out!!!

Backpackers House Paraty

Paraty, Brazil

This really did feel like a home from home- Pablo and his staff were all so welcoming and helpful regarding the local area. The hostel has such a great vibe which really encourages people to socialise- a great selection of games and dvds to watch. Location excellent - you literally step off the bus and you are 1 min away. The map on here is a bit misleading - it is much closer than it looks - literally cross over from the bus station and take the road to the right of the supermarket!
