Haris Youth Hostel, Sarajevo, Bosnia And Herzegovina

I strongly recommend this hostel. Haris is a very good guy, his hospitality is commendable, and his tours are excellent. He also hosts barbecues in the evening - the food is great and it's an easy way to meet people. The hostel is very reasonably priced and Haris also offers personal tours to other parts of Bosnia. I can't recommend this place enough.

Hostel Franz Ferdinand, Sarajevo, Bosnia And Herzegovina

This hostel boasts an excellent location a half block from the main pedestrian promenade and the Catholic cathedral. Its tours are also very good. Two of the male staff members were excellent while one of the female staff members was a very rude and unhelpful. We only stayed one night, but it didn't seem to be a very social place.

I recommend this hostel for the terrace view of the Blue Mosque and Sea of Marmara alone. It was very clean, the staff was very friendly, and it's a short walk to the Blue Mosque, Haghia Sophia, and Hippodrome. One minor issue is that it didn't seem too social of a place. We only stayed for one night, but if we were in Istanbul for longer I would have wanted a hostel where it was easier to meet other travelers.

Alajuela Backpackers Airport Hostel, Alajuela, Costa Rica

This hostel defines average. The upstairs bar has a good view, but there isn't much else going on. The front desk attendant who checked us in was unhelpful and insolent, but the other staff members were nice and competent. This is a good option if you have an early flight out of San Jose -- the free airport shuttle is excellent -- but there is really no other reason to stay at this hostel.

Great hostel. Very secure, good bar, tons of activities (do the night walk, the tour guide is a sage) and all at a very good price. The hostel has a great atmosphere - we were there for New Year's Eve and there was a fun party in the common area. It's a very social place when the weather is good, but it kind of empties out when the weather is poor. One small complaint: the staff is relatively slow (they operate on Latin time) so don't expect a quick response if you're in a hurry.
