The man working there was nice and seemed like a genuine person but spoke very little English. They were able to arrange a last minute houseboat for us & woke up to check us out at 6am, but didn't seem ready for us when we arrived. The room we were in did not look like the picture. All rooms have AC but they will try to charge you 300 extra rupees for using it. The bathroom had holes that mosquitoes could easily get into the room through and there was no mosquito net over the bed.
Nice place, helpful staff. Seemed like a good place to meet other backpackers. Also nice in that it has a kitchen and a water filter.
More of a hotel than a hostel. In a terrible location, not near much of anything and in a bad neighborhood. Dogs were barking all night, then there was an incredibly load call to prayer at 6am. It sounded like the guy was in our room with a megaphone. The staff was not particularly nice. They also had a sign that said unmarried couples would not be allowed in the room, but didn't ask us if we were married. The only good thing about this place was the restaurant. Decent food and a nice waiter.
We had an excellent stay. The location is great, only about a 5-10 minute walk from Khao San Road (which is the perfect distance if you plan on getting any sleep). The free breakfast in the morning is lovely, and not too small at all if you are used to Asian portion sizes generally. I would only add that it is not the best hostel if you are looking to meet other travellers (but if you are travelling in a couple or with a friend it is fine).
