Pink Manila Hostel

Had a great time. Unfortunately the hostel has such a great atmosphere that we didn't see anything in Manila and just spent 3 days in the pool, sunbathing, or chilling out. 16 bed dorm room was comfortable but a bit warm because the ceiling fan on our side didn't work so it was a balance between being hot and opening the windows and being eaten by bugs. Shower was being fixed (think it might be done by now) so we had to use the ones downstairs, but never once had to wait.

White Beach Divers Hostel

Boracay Island, Philippines

A good diver dive, right on the beach, location and staff are great. Unfortunately there's only one shower for all guests and staff, it's constantly sandy, busy and the mirrors and fixtures need cleaning/replacing. There are two extra WCs though so no problem there. Great diving staff, went on a great 1-on-1 fun dive. Our room had had a leak previously so the light didn't work, it was damp and bits of ceiling fell down in the night. This will probably be fixed in the future though.

Would have given location a higher rating, but the neighbours have a very noisy rooster that starts going from 4am. Staff are excellent, so is the kitchen. Perfect for backpackers.

No toilet paper, no toilet seat. Asked about hiring the driver to take us to the nearby bus station and was told to take a taxi, asked if I could book a taxi, told no. Very rude girl at desk. Got harassed by elderly guest asking for money because he got held up while drunk. No wifi except in lobby. For the price I've stayed in nicer, friendlier and better equipped places.

Stayed here before going on a tour, we extended for the night after our tour finished and were allowed to keep our backpacks in storage. Staff are wonderfully welcomming and friendly.

A great hostel a little out of the centre, but surrounded by great places to eat. Unlike most hostels we've stayed at, payment was taken at check-out instead of arrival so we almost left without paying. Staff are great and the kitchen and showers are really good here.

Safe to say, this hostel has the best showers in Asia (and they're hot!). We were in the 6 bed, very comfortable. Joe was very friendly and there was 24hour free coffee, tea and water.

A good budget hostel, very close to Khao San without the noise. Would have been better if there had been wifi in the rooms.

The facilities here are really good, as is the location and cleanliness. The staff are very friendly although beware of being ripped off. We bought 30 day visas for China and were charged more than we expected to pay, we didn't receive them. Until the day we left and only then discovered that we'd been given 20 day ones instead. We also tried to cancel the airport pickup after finding out it was more than a taxi but our cancellation was ignored. Apart from the commission and visa scams our cance

Got there and our booked 5 bed dorm was full so we had to stay in the 9 bed. Dorm was damp and smelled strongly of mothballs. One guest was mentally unhinged and kept going into other peoples' rooms at night (no keys for dorms.) and scaring people awake by doing martial arts and shouting that everyone was in his bed, complaints about him were ignored

A great hangout for nu-backpackers. This hostel has a great restaurant and bar. The reception staff are very helpful, although our room was overbooked when we arrived and had to fight to not get split up. There was a problem with bed bugs in two forms while we were there. Other than that, the facilities are great, beds are big and comfy. A good place to meet people.

88 takes hygiene very seriously. We go to great lengths to make sure we dont have beg bugs: All beds have protective covers. All sheets are washed for new customers. We regularly steam clean the beds and rooms to remove all creepy crawlies. If bed bugs do appear, a customer has brought them with them, and we take action straight away to make sure they do not infest. :-)

Better than a hotel, the staff here are professional, helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and fresh, although the water in the shower is pretty metallic, not sure if this is a Siem Reap problem though. Be sure to take advantage of the cheap bike rental, Angkor Wat is a 25 minute cycle.

Nice and friendly guesthouse for travellers on a budget. The owner Luigi is really friendly and helpful. Food at the restaurant is great. The road outside and nearby clubs can be a distraction for light sleepers but that's a problem anywhere with a good location on Kho Samui.

Very good place to stay for couples and older travellers. Mostly quiet apart from the mosque's call to prayer, but that's not the hostel's fault. Very helpful staff.

Great staff, comfortable and well placed. Compared to some other hostels i've stayed in in Hong Kong this one certainly beats the competition. Granted it's more expensive, but that's the case everywhere in HK.

The shower in the ensuite was very moldy and the hostel would benefit from having a more inclusive atmosphere, like theme nights in the cafe, which is underused and mostly just full of people hanging around for hours and hours on their tablets and laptops. This may be due to the lack of wifi strength, but it discourages the cafe from being used for socialising.

A great hostel for younger backpackers and tourists. The dorms and hostel are clean, the restaurant is a little pricy (but so are all travelcafes). The biggest problem is that the basement and ground floor levels share a toilet, and this toilet is available for anyone who comes to the bar. So if you wake up at 2pm needing to go, hold it or you'll end up having to step over puke and standing in line in your PJs behind a ton of drunken locals. The staff are great though and very very helpful.

Unfortunately there's no internet in the rooms, only in the lobby and cafe, but there are no plug points in the cafe. The staff are very friendly and the rooms are nice. Probably to closest hotel (locationwise) to the Monastery. The shower in our room only came out in one thin stream, but the room had a bathtub so this wasn't too bad.

Anda Guesthouse

Hohhot, China

Probably the homeyist hostel in mainland China. The staff are very helpful and welcoming and the hostel has a great atmosphere. While it's true that the staff do push for their tours to the grasslands, there's not a massive amount of stuff to do in the city itself and compared to other tours, this one is resonably priced. We did the day and night grasslands tour, the guides were really friendly and helpful and the food cooked in the farmstead was delicious.

The staff at Showbiz were so helpful and friendly, they remembered our names and suggested cycle routes and good deals for local outdoor sports. It's located perfectly off of West Street, within a 1 minute walk, but away from all the hustle and bustle. The prices for bike rental and local tours, events and activites were competitive and definately fair.
